Newcastle United vs Aston Villa Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

Newcastle United v Aston Villa, Match Prediction

It has been different fortunes for two sides who were relegated from the Premier League last season and they do battle here on Monday night (20:00). Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

The last three meetings between the duo have ended in a draw including when the pair met at Villa Park back towards the end of September.  A Tommy Elphick own goal gave Newcastle a first-half lead with the Magpies all set for all three points Aaron Tshibola scored in the 88th minute to rescue a point for Villa.

It was a useful point for Newcastle last time out at in-form Norwich where they took the lead as early as the first minute through Ayoze Perez before the Canaries struck back twice in a five-minute spell.  The Magpies rescued a point through James Lascelles in the 81st minute.

The pressure on Steve Bruce continues to grow as they suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Barnsley in midweek.  A Jonathan Kodjia goal proved to be little more than a consolation effort for the home side as they were booed off by their own fans.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Newcastle HT/Newcastle FT would have paid in eight of their last 12 home games and this looks worth an interest here against a Villa side badly out of sorts and against a team who have been behind in four of their last seven league matches.

Villa have not been firing recently but they do have a ton of creative talent in their side while Newcastle are quite capable of punishing the 2.5 goal line on their own. Ten of their 15 league home fixtures have gone over 2.5 so this looks worth an interest here.

Newcastle Preview

It is now six games unbeaten in the league for Newcastle winning four of these.  The results mean they are back to the top of the table though Brighton and Huddersfield are chasing which means they can’t afford many slip ups.

It is four wins, one draw and just one defeat from their last six home matches for the Magpies. They are the sixth best-ranked home side in the division with surprising home defeats to both Wolves and Blackburn during the season.

They have kept a clean sheet in just four of their last 12 home fixtures in the league. Five of their last eight have gone over 2.5 goals. The North-Eastern side have only failed to fire the first goal in one of their last seven.

Aston Villa Preview

It is now no wins in their last nine games in all competitions for Aston Villa and the pressure is growing on boss Steve Bruce. At one stage the Midlands side looked they could be challenging for the play-offs now they are just seven points above the relegation places.

On the road it is just two wins in the last ten for Villa and just two for the entire season in the Championship. They have lost three of five they have played away to sides in the top seven although they did manage a point at Brighton.

Despite an expensive strike force a lack of goals is an issue with just four in their last seven matches. On their travels it is just two in their last seven.  Just three of their last 13 away from their own fans have gone over 2.5 goals.

Newcastle Team News

Rafa Benitez must decide if he wishes to start with striker Dwight Gayle who came off the bench in midweek against Norwich. Chancel Mbemba (physical discomfort) is a doubt while Vurnon Anita (ankle) and Rolando Aarons (broken toe) are both ruled out.

Aston Villa Team News

James Bree (knee) and Neil Taylor (ankle) are listed day-to-day while Mile Jedinak (groin) and Gabby Agbonlahor (hamstring) are ruled out for another few weeks. Jed Steer (achilles) and Ritchie De Laet (knee) are unavailable for the rest of the season.
