New York City FC vs Orlando City Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

New York City kept their 100% record after a 2-1 home win over LA Galaxy last weekend. Anton Tinnerholm scored the first home goal for New York City this season and his 22nd-minute strike put New York in a strong position. David Villa doubled their advantage just 11 minutes later. Galaxy tried to initiate a comeback with Jonathan Dos Santos scoring in the second half, but Ashley Cole’s late red card eliminated any hope of a comeback. Orlando City are winless in two matches after slipping to a 2-1 defeat against Minnesota United. Ethan Finlay came up with a brace in either half for the visitors, but Orlando did have their moments in the game. The penalty from Victor Yotun just before half-time appeared to give Orlando belief, but the team has now failed to win back-to-back home games.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

New York City may have been one of the strong teams in the division, but they have failed to win the last three home games against Orlando. In fact, Orlando have scored eight goals in their four away games against New York City. This game, however, is expected to go in favour of the home team, but Orlando appear capable of scoring at least once. The likes of Don Dwyer will not make it to this game, but Justin Meram has enough quality to get past City’s defence. Villa’s sensational return of six goals in nine MLS games against Orlando enhances the likelihood of goals from the hosts. I would back both teams to score.

Just one of the last five meetings between New York City and Orlando has been with less than 2.5 goals in total. Such has been the high-scoring nature of this fixture. Despite making a poor start to the season, Orlando has displayed enough potential to score. This is expected to take up the total goals count in the game beyond 2.5.

New York City FC Preview

New York City have made a strong start to the season and are further enhancing their reputation as the favourites for the MLS Cup title this season. Two strong performances against Sporting Kansas City and LA Galaxy are just the start of the tougher tests that await the team, but City have looked good at both ends of the pitch. The departure of Jack Harrison has not had much of an impact, as David Villa continues to rule the roost going forward.

New York City FC Team News

Jo Inge Berget (thigh) is unavailable for the game.

Orlando City Preview

Jason Kreis does not have much time left to sort out Orlando’s poor form. Even though he does have a substantial number of top stars on the sidelines, Orlando should be making more than just a point from the games against DC United and Minnesota United. These are teams that did not come close to qualifying for the play-offs and they finished around Orlando City in the regular campaign. Hence, the upcoming round of matches – against the likes of New York City and Portland Timbers – look especially tough on Orlando.

Orlando City Team News

Pierre da Silva is suspended for the game. Manager Jason Kreis remains without Dominic Dwyer (thigh), Stefano Pinho (ankle), Mason Stajduhar (cancer), Josue Colman (thigh), and Oriol Rosell due to injuries.
