New York City FC vs Minnesota United Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

New York City secured a surprise away win against rivals New York Red Bulls following a 2-0 win. Jack Harrison opened the scoring with a splendid finish in the first half, while Ben Sweat scored his first MLS goal in the second half to make the game safe for the away team. Minnesota United managed to avoid a home defeat, as they bounced back to secure a 2-2 draw with Vancouver Whitecaps. Goals from Cristian Techera (penalty) and Tony Tchani provided Vancouver with a significant advantage in the first half. However, second-half goals from Francesco Calvo and Jerome Theisson helped the home team take a point. Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Minnesota United have been losing at half-time and full-time in five out of the eight away games this season. New York City are substantially strong at home and they have managed three wins in the last four league games. I would back New York City to win at half-time and full-time considering their impressive performances at the Yankee stadium. Adrian Heath’s Minnesota have conceded 23 goals in the eight away games. The club have one of the poorest defensive records in the division. New York City have averaged more than two goals per game at home. I would back New York City to score over 2.5 goals.

New York City FC Preview

New York City are undefeated in the last four league matches, while they have also managed three wins on the bounce. Manager Patrick Vieira will be extremely happy with his team’s offensive form, as they have scored nine goals in the last five league games. New York City are placed well to make a push for the top two places in the Eastern conference, as the club will be going on a run of three home games in the next four. The club will also be boosted by the win over archrivals New York Red Bulls. David Villa remains the club’s top scorer in the MLS with 10 goals this season.

New York City FC Team News

Khiry Shelton (muscle) and Maxi Moralez (calf) are the players unavailable due to injury.

Minnesota United Preview

Minnesota United once again showed their superior form at home after managing to come back from a very bad position against Vancouver Whitecaps. The result sees the club suffering just one defeat at home in the last five league games, but they are yet to win even a single match on the road. Minnesota’s tally of two points from eight away games is only better compared to Colorado Rapids. Adrian Heath will be reasonably happy with the recent form after managing two wins in the last three games. Christian Ramirez is the top scorer this season with nine league goals.

Minnesota United Team News

Bernardo Anor (muscle), Vadim Demidov (knee), Marc Burch (groin), and Thomas de Villardi (Achilles tendon) are the players unavailable for Minnesota. Abdoulaye Diallo is the player suspended for the game.
