Nantes vs Lyon Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Lyon will be aiming to extend their unbeaten start to the new Ligue 1 season when they travel to the Stade de la Beaujoire - Louis Fonteneau to take on Nantes on Saturday afternoon. Nantes managed a hard-fought 0-1 victory on the road at the newcomers Troyes last weekend thanks to a late goal from Emiliano Sala. On the other hand, Lyon threw away a two-goal lead to register only a 3-3 home draw against Bordeaux, with Nabil Fekir, Kenny Tete and Bertrand Traore all getting on the scoresheet. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Nantes haven’t been at their best in this early part of the new season, but they have been a strong side on home soil over the past six months. I don’t think that they are capable of grabbing all three points here, but a draw should be a convenient result for Ranieri. Both teams to score should be a good bet for this game despite Nantes have only scored once in three league games so far this season. Nantes have scored at least once in seven of their last ten home fixtures, while Lyon have conceded at least one goal in seven of their last eight league games.

Nantes Preview

Nantes have finally registered their first Ligue 1 victory under the guidance of Claudio Ranieri as they beat Troyes 0-1 last weekend, despite playing with ten men from the 34th minute. Prior to this result, Nantes suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Lille and Marseille without scoring a single goal. Claudio Ranieri’s men currently sit in 15th position in the league table with three points to their name after three rounds, already four points behind the top five. Scoring goals has definitely been Nantes’ main issue throughout this early part of the season as they have only scored once in three league games. Emiliano Sala has finally found the back of the net this season as he netted the winner against Troyes last weekend. The 26-year-old striker has enjoyed an excellent Ligue 1 campaign last term, helping the team with 12 goals and four assists in his 34 league appearances. At home, Nantes have enjoyed a decent run of form over the past six months, registering six wins, three defeats and one draw in their last ten home fixtures across all competitions. Head-to-head, Nantes are winless in their last five meetings with Lyon across all competitions since a 3-2 home win in the Coupe de France.

Nantes Team News

Valentin Rongier, Yacine Bammou, Diego Carlos Santos Silva and Alex Kacaniklic are all doubts, while Joris Kayembe Ditu and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson are both missing through injury. In addition, Chidozie Collins Awaziem and Enock Kwateng are both out through suspension.

Lyon Preview

Lyon’s form over the past three months has seen them lose just once in their last twelve games across all competitions. Les Gones kicked off the new Ligue 1 campaign with back-to-back wins over Strasbourg and Rennes, but they should be disappointed after last weekend’ 3-3 home draw against Bordeaux. Lyon had a two-goal lead in the 23rd minute thanks to goals from Nabil Fekir and Kenny Tete, but despite the lead, their midfielder Sergi Darder made two stupid mistakes within the space of three minutes and was sent-off just after the half-hour mark. The visitors pulled one back just before the break, but Lyon scored another goal with just 15 minutes to go and the game seemed to be heading for a comfortable victory. However, Bordeaux managed one of the best comebacks in Ligue 1 history as they scored two goals in the last two minutes of the game and both sides had to settle for a 3-3 draw. Lyon sit 4th in the Ligue 1 table tied on seven points with 5th-placed Marseille. They are the division’s second top scorers at the moment with nine goals under their belts. Mariano Diaz and Nabil Fekir have are Lyon’s joint top scorers at the moment with three goals each, while Memphis Depay has helped the team with one goal and two assists.

Lyon Team News

Fernando Marcal is a doubt, while Sergi Darder is suspended following his two yellow cards last weekend.
