N.Ireland vs Germany Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Germany will look to extend their perfect 100% winning streak in the World Cup qualifying Group C when they travel to the Windsor Park to take on the Northern Ireland on Thursday night. Northern Ireland picked up a comfortable 2-0 home win over the Czech Republic back in September, with Jonny Evans and Chris Brunt getting on the scoresheet in the first half. Meanwhile, Germany thrashed Norway 6-0 at home thanks to a brace from Timo Werner and four other goals from Mesut Ozil, Julian Draxler, Leon Goretzka and Mario Gomez. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Despite Northern Ireland’s impressive run of form throughout this World Cup qualifying campaign, Germany are definitely a step up in class of opposition and I’m backing the Mannschaft to grab another victory here, although a draw is more than enough for them to book their place in Russia next summer. I fancy Germany to win, but I’m not expecting too many goals here.

N.Ireland Preview

Northern Ireland are enjoying one of the best spells of form in their footballing history at the moment in time as after reaching the Euro 2016 round of 16 last year, they have now almost confirmed a play-off spot in qualification for next summer’s World Cup. Northern Ireland have only lost once in eight group games throughout this qualifying, which was a 2-0 defeat in Germany in the reverse fixture a year ago. The Northern Irish are currently on a five-game winning streak across all competitions, including four qualifiers. They looked incredibly solid at the back over the past six months, having kept a clean sheet in each of their last five games across all competitions. The Northern Irish hold the joint best defensive record in the group with just two goals conceded in eight rounds. They find themselves in second spot in the group C table with 19 points to their name after eight games, already nine points clear of the third-placed Azerbaijan. At home, Northern Ireland have won all of their four World Cup qualifiers, conceding none in the process. The bad news is that Michael O’Neill’s men have suffered defeats in each of their last four home meetings with Germany, conceding at least three goals in three of these. However, it must be said that the Northern Irish looked much better in their most recent two games against Germany, as they were only beaten 1-0 at Euro 2016 and 2-0 in Hannover in the reverse fixture of this qualifying campaign.

N.Ireland Team News

Key defender Gareth McAuley has returned to the squad for the final two World Cup qualifiers. Craig Cathcart is still out through a knee injury, but there are call-ups for uncapped pair Jordan Jones and George Saville.

Germany Preview

Germany have been impeccable throughout this World Cup qualifying campaign, having won each of their eight group fixtures. The Germans have been ruthlessly efficient throughout this qualifying campaign, having scored 35 goals and conceded just two in eight group games. Thomas Muller is the team’s topscorer with five goals and six assists under his belt, while Julian Draxler, Serge Gnabry, Sandro Wagner and Timo Werner have scored three goals each. Away from home, Germany are undefeated in their last nine away games across all competitions, conceding just five goals in this term. Furthermore, the Germans picked up victories in each of their last four visits to the Northern Ireland, scoring at least three goals in three of these. Germany have faced very few problems in winning all eight of their fixtures so far and they are definitely heading to Russia as one of the favourites next summer. When we are looking at their squad, we can see plenty of quality, despite the fact there are a lot of young players at the moment. They thrashed Norway 6-0 at home last time out, with goals from talented youngsters in the shape of Timo Werner, Julian Draxler and Leon Goretzka. Although the recent Bundesliga events which has seen Bayern Munich’s coach Carlo Ancelotti being sacked, may affect the mood in the German camp, I still think that they should be able to secure a victory in this one.

Germany Team News

Leroy Sane and Jerome Boateng return for the final two World Cup qualifiers, but Mesut Ozil, Sami Khedira, Manuel Neuer, Jonas Hector and Mario Gomez are all out through injury.
