Motherwell vs St.Johnstone Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Motherwell were able to secure a 1-1 draw at Partick Thistle at the Fir Park. Kris Doolan scored from a free header in the 53rd minute to provide the breakthrough in the game. The home team’s push for an equaliser finally yielded a result following Nadir Ciftci’s 79th minute goal. St Johnstone became the latest team to suffer a 1-0 loss against Hearts at the Tynecastle stadium. Despite being put under pressure from the away team, David Milinkovic came up with the only goal of the game just after half-time to deal a decisive blow to Tommy Wright’s team. David Wotherspoon was later sent off in the game.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

St Johnstone will be hoping to replicate their excellent record against Motherwell in recent years. Four wins in the last 5 meetings against this club speaks volumes about the dominance St Johnstone have enjoyed against this opponent. Despite losing against Hearts, Wright’s team will take a lot of confidence from the 1st half performance. I would go with a surprise St Johnstone victory.

A feature of Motherwell’s recent matches has been goals, as the team has scored in their last 5 games in all competitions. Whenever St Johnstone and Motherwell have faced each other in the last 6 matches, there have been goals at both ends of the pitch. I would back both teams to score.

Motherwell Preview

After making a fabulous start to 2018 with back-to-back home victories, Motherwell are now searching for their 1st win in 4 matches. This dip in form has resulted in Robinson’s team dropping out of the top 6 places, although only on goal difference. Motherwell could experience significant setbacks in the race for the top six, as their main rivals for this position – Kilmarnock – have a couple of games in hand. Yet, Motherwell’s current form is significantly better than the run of results that they managed in December. The scoring form of January signing Curtis Main is a positive for the club, as the striker is now up to 3 goals in the SPL.

Motherwell Team News

Motherwell manager Steve Robinson will be without George Newell (knee) and Ellis Plummer (hamstring) due to injuries.

St.Johnstone Preview

St Johnstone are showing no signs of recovery from the poor form, but the result against Hearts did not tell the whole story. After a brilliant first-half in which the team looked likely for a big win, St Johnstone were forced to settle for their 11th defeat of the season. If the current trend continues, St Johnstone are at a serious disadvantage of being put in contention with the likes of Partick Thistle and Hamilton for the relegation spots. Goalscoring has been an issue for St Johnstone throughout the campaign and Steve MacLean is their current top scorer with 5 goals.

St.Johnstone Team News

The game will witness Sam Johnstone coming in without George Williams (knock) and Callum Hendry (knee) due to injuries.
