Montpellier vs Nantes Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

Montpellier will be aiming to get back to winning ways in Ligue 1 when they welcome Nantes at the Stade de la Mosson on Saturday evening. Montpellier lost 2-1 on the road at Dijon prior to the International break, with Giovanni Sio scoring their consolation goal. On the other hand, Nantes managed a creditable nil-nil home draw against Lyon last time out. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

It should be a boring game as both teams looked terrible in the final third in this early part of the season. These two sides have only bagged four goals between them so far this season, while two of the last four meetings between them have seen few than two goals scored.

Montpellier Preview

Montpellier did well to beat Caen in their Ligue 1 opener, but they have failed to win a single game since then. Montpellier suffered two narrow defeats along with a disappointing 1-1 home draw against Strasbourg in their most recent three league fixtures. They only sit in 12th in the Ligue 1 table tied on four points with five other teams, including Saturday’s opponents. Scoring goals has been Montpellier’s biggest problem throughout this Ligue 1 campaign as they have only found the back of the net on three occasions. Souleymane Camara, Daniel Congre, and Giovanni Sio all get on the scoresheet once for Montpellier in this early part of the campaign, but they need to do better if they are to survive in Ligue 1 this season. The latter has been one of Montpellier’s most prolific players in front of goal last term as he has scored nine goals in 34 league appearances. Montpellier’s recent home form has been decent as they are undefeated in four games across all competitions, keeping a clean sheet in two of these. In addition, Montpellier have only lost two of their ten home meetings with Nantes across all competitions, scoring at least two goals in six of these.

Montpellier Team News

Ellyes Skhiri is missing through an ankle injury.

Nantes Preview

On the contrary, Nantes started the new Ligue 1 campaign with back-to-back defeats at the hands of Lille and Marseille, without scoring a single goal in the process. However, Nantes showed some signs of life recently as they beat Troyes 0-1 and held Lyon to a nil-nil home draw in the previous two league games prior to the International break. Similar to Saturday’s opponents, Nantes have also looked terrible in the final third in this early part of the season, as they have only scored once in four Ligue 1 games. Their sole goal of the campaign has been scored by Emiliano Sala, who managed to find the back of the net on 12 occasions last term. Away from home, Nantes were on a six-game winless streak across all competitions prior to their narrow 0-1 win at Troyes in their most recent league trip. Overall, Nantes have only won three of their last 15 away games across all competitions. In addition, Nantes picked up a 2-3 victory at Montpellier in their most recent visit to the Stade de la Mosson. Head-to-head, Nantes have won their last three meetings with Montpellier across all competitions, scoring three goals in two of these.

Nantes Team News

Yacine Bammou, Kolbeinn Sigthorsson and Valentin Rongier are all doubts, but Joris Kayembe Ditu is out through a cruciate ligament injury. In addition, Chidozie Collins Awaziem is missing through suspension.
