Monaco vs Toulouse Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Most of us have been struggling to watch a decent football game throughout the summer, but the wait is over, as the European Elite Leagues are back, with the French Ligue 1 season being the first one to kick off this weekend. The defending champions Monaco will be looking to begin their title defence in fashion when they welcome Toulouse at the Stade Louis II on Friday night in the opening round of the new Ligue 1 season. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Although they have a weaker squad than in the previous season, Monaco still have enough quality within their ranks to secure a comfortable win over Toulouse on Friday. They are undefeated in the last seven home meetings with Toulouse in Ligue 1, conceding just four goals in the process. On the flip side, Toulouse have only won once in their last 19 away games across all competitions.

Monaco Preview

Monaco ended PSG’s dominance of the French top tier last term, but the most impressive fact is that they achieved that with one of the youngest squads in Europe. However, they have already allowed their rivals Paris Saint Germain to win a trophy this year, as Monaco lost 1-2 at the hands of Les Parisiens in the French Super Cup a few days ago. They had the lead at halftime following a half-hour mark goal from Djibril Sidibe and an impressive amount of goalscoring opportunities, but PSG bounced back with two second-half goals to secure the victory. Monaco’s form in the pre-season has been a complete mixed bag with three draws, two wins and one victory in their six friendlies. Monaco definitely have a weaker squad at the moment after the departure of Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva to Manchester City, and Tiemoue Bakayoko to Chelsea. They managed to keep Kylian Mbappe and Thomas Lemar at the club so far, but there are still four weeks until the end of the transfer window and both players have been heavily linked with several clubs across Europe. In terms of arrivals, Monaco managed to bring in Soualiho Meite from Zulte Waregem, Terence Kongolo from Feyenoord and Youri Tielemans from Anderlecht for a total fee of €48 million. Monaco should feel confident ahead of this clash with Toulouse as they have won three of the last five meetings, scoring at least three goals in each of these.

Monaco Team News

Loic Badiashile, Gabriel Boschilia and Adama Traore are all missing through injury, while Jordi Mboula and Pierre-Daniel Nguinda Ndiffon are both doubts.

Toulouse Preview

Toulouse finished in a decent 13th spot in the Ligue 1 table last season, eight points clear of the drop zone. They struggled in the final third last term, and I’m expecting them to struggle even more this season as their top scorer Martin Braithwaite has been sold to Middlesbrough for €11.3 million this summer. Les Pitchouns brought Corentin Jean from Monaco as a replacement for Martin Braithwaite, and they also have Arsenal former striker Yaya Sanogo within their ranks. Toulouse have endured a poor run of form in the pre-season, winning just once in their five friendlies. Their sole victory actually came in their most recent friendly game against Osasuna thanks to a first-half goal from their last season’s second top scorer Andy Delort. The bad news is that Toulouse are well-known for their awful displays on the road as they have only won once in their last 19 away games across all competitions. Actually, they only collected 14 points from their 19 away league fixtures last term, just four more than the worst-away team, SC Bastia. In addition, Toulouse are winless in their last seven trips to Stade Louis II, scoring just two goals in this term.

Toulouse Team News

Issa Diop, Alban Lafont, Zinedine Marchach, Jacques Francois Moubandje and Steeve Yago are all out through injury.
