Monaco vs Lorient Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Monaco will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table when they welcome Lorient at the Stade Louis II on Sunday afternoon. Monaco managed an impressive 1-4 victory on the road against Marseille last time out in Ligue 1 thanks to a brace from Bernardo Silva and two other goals from Thomas Lemar and Radamel Falcao. Lorient won 3-1 at home over Guingamp, with Majeed Waris and Jimmy Cabot scoring the goals in the second half for Bernard Casoni’s side. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Monaco Preview

Monaco kicked off 2017 in fashion, having registered back-to-back wins over AC Ajaccio, Sochaux and Marseille in three different competitions. Overall, the Monegasque side have only lost twice in their last 15 games across all competitions. Monaco currently sit on top of the Ligue 1 table tied on 45 points with the 2nd-placed Nice, just three points clear off the 3rd-placed Paris Saint-Germain. The Monegasque team looked incredibly strong going forward throughout this Ligue 1 campaign, as they are the division’s top scorers with an incredible tally of 60 goals in 20 rounds. Radamel Falcao got on the scoresheet last time out to take his tally to 12 goals in 14 league appearances this season. Guido Carrillo and Thomas Lemar have also enjoyed a decent campaign, as the pair have bagged 14 goals and 5 assists between them. On home soil, Monaco have been near perfect so far this season, having only lost one of their last 15 home fixtures in all competitions while winning 13 in the process. The bad news is that Monaco suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Lorient in their last two home meetings with Les Merlus.

Lorient Preview

Meanwhile, Lorient were thrashed 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in their final fixture of 2016 but kicked off the new year in fashion. They picked up a 2-1 home win over Nice in Coupe de France a fortnight ago and followed this up with a comfortable 3-1 victory against Guingamp last time out in Ligue 1. Lorient also looked decent going forward over the past month, scoring at least two goals in three of their last four games across all competitions. Despite their recent result, Lorient still find themselves second from the bottom in the standings tied on 18 points with the bottom-placed Metz, just three points behind safety. Lorient have struggled to keep the ball out of their own net throughout this campaign as they have the most leakiest defence in the division, conceding 39 goals in 19 rounds. Their away form has also been an issue as Lorient are winless in the last 16 away fixtures across all competitions since a 1-2 win at Caen back in April 2016. The good news is that Lorient picked up wins in their last two visits to the Stade Louis II, scoring at least two goals in each of these. Benjamin Moukandjo has been Lorient’s most dangerous player in front of goal so far this season, as the 28-year-old striker is currently leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 7 goals in his 15 league appearances.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Both teams have scored plenty of goals over the past three months, and both looked in great shape in this early part of the new year. Although, Monaco have only lost once in their last 15 home fixtures and they should be able to grab another victory here. However, Lorient scored at least two goals in seven of their last eight games across all competitions, and I’m also expecting them to get on the scoresheet.
