Millwall vs Ipswich Town Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) game from the Den sees Millwall entertain Ipswich in Championship action. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Millwall got their first point on the board last time as they drew 1-1 with fellow promoted side Bolton. The Lions can probably count themselves unlucky as they have registered more shots on targets than their opponents in both games. Ipswich have had a good start to the season which continued Saturday as they saw off Barnsley 2-1. They went one down but a goal each from David McGoldrick and Martyn Waghorn enabled them to take all three points. The head-to-head record favours the Suffolk side who have won three of their last four meetings including each of their last two. These two sides did not meet last season as the Lions were in the league below.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I think Millwall are the standout bet here as this game is really a case of two teams whose early season results are not reflective of performance. The Lions are creating far more chances than their opponents while not giving up as many so take them to get the result their performances deserve here Jed Wallace must be due a goal soon as he averages four shots per game and at double-figure odds he would be my selection in the first goalscorer market.

Millwall Preview

The London outfit created more chances in a loss to Forest and in a draw with Bolton so they must be hoping for a turn in fortunes soon. This home game with a solid Ipswich side though will present a different kind of test. The Lions need to improve on a conversion rate of just 2% if they wish to stay up this season. One player who must be due a goal is Jed Wallace who is averaging four shots per game. Steve Morison and George Saville meanwhile registered two shots on target each in their match with Bolton. Millwall have not managed to score in the opening 45 minutes of a game yet in three efforts in all competitions. Three of the last five they have conceded in head-to-heads have come in the opening half.

Ipswich Town Preview

It was a summer of doom for Ipswich but so far they have looked comfortable winning their opening two games. They had enough street smarts to see off Birmingham on the opening day and then showed fighting spirit to see off Barnsley on Saturday. The Suffolk side have converted 14% which is quite a high rate and might not be maintainable over a whole season. This also true in reverse as their opponents have been converting a small number of the chances Town are giving up. Three different Ipswich players have scored one goal each while Freddie Sears who has not netted yet is averaging three shots per game. Joe Garner is a real threat in the air having won an impressive six aerial duels but then Lions defender has won 8 so that should be a key battle.
