Millwall vs Derby County Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Millwall were almost the victims of a cup shock last time out as they needed a 90th minute Ben Thompson goal to rescue a home draw against Rochdale (Jed Wallace also netted). In the league, they were last in action on the 20th January where they defeated Leeds 4-3 at Elland Road with a goal each from Aiden O’Brien, Lee Gregory, Tom Elliott and Jed Wallace.

Derby were knocked out of the cup in the Third Round by Man United so had a weekend off. In fact, they last played January 19th where they battle out a goalless draw with promotion rivals Bristol City.

The reverse fixture on December 23rd saw the Rams ease to a comfortable 3-0 victory at the iPro Stadium. David Nugent and Matej Vydra got the goals with the former grabbing a brace and the latter just one.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bookmakers are having trouble split the pair with home advantage making Millwall marginal favourites. The Rams though look worth a small interest given they have rested at the weekend and have won six of their last eight on the road. The draw is a runner but at the prices I will take the risk of Derby to win the game.

For County to win this one they will probably have to score twice as the Lions have netted in their last seven home matches. I think over 2.5 goals then looks another sensible way to get involved here.

Millwall Preview

Just one defeat in five and two in their last eight has seen the Lions put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone. They now sit in 15th place nine points above relegation which is good work for a side promoted via the play-offs last season.

At the Den, they are unbeaten in their last six Championship fixtures with three of these ending in draws. Six of their last seven in front of their fans in all competitions have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Only three sides have scored more goals than the nine Millwall have netted in their last six league matches. They have though conceded 11 in this same fixture period which is the second worst in the division.

Millwall Team News

Byron Webster (knee) is a long-term absentee. Jason Shackell could be in line for a league debut after playing in the FA Cup after a loan move from Derby.

Derby County Preview

It is now nine undefeated in the league for the Rams though three of their last five have finished all-square. They sit in second place with the gap to the third-place side just two points while they trail Wolves by 12 points.

Away from the iPro Stadium, they have won six of their last eight in the league and have lost none of their last ten. In just one of their last eight Championship road trips have they failed to find the back of the net.

Derby have conceded just two goals in their last six which gives them the best form defensive record in the second tier. Matej Vydra has 15 league goals to his name this season and has four in the last eight.

Derby County Team News

Bradley Johnson, Joe Ledley (both back issues) and Kyle McAllister (groin) are doubts.
