Millwall vs Bristol City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides just outside the play-offs desperate to crack the end of season top six.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Millwall saw their four-game winning run come to an end last time out as they were held to a 2-2 draw away to Ipswich.  Jake Cooper and George Saville got their goals in an evenly fought contest.

Bristol City saw their three-game undefeated run end on Easter Monday as they suffered a 1-0 home loss to Brentford.  The Robins were dominated in possession and chances created and can have few complaints about the result.

The last meeting between these sides came in mid-August and it ended in a goalless draw at Ashton Gate.  It continues a recent trend that has seen two of the last three and three of their last six meetings finish all-square.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Millwall are the deserved favourites for this game given their recent form and the recent slide Bristol City are on.  The prices on offer reflect this and do not offer any value in the full-time result market.

Over 2.5 goals is not a common feature of recent games involving the London side but I feel this is a game both teams will feel they need to win and that could push over 2.5 goals which is the outsider of two.

Millwall often come out of the blocks firing so backing an early goal could be the play here with the time of the first goal set at 32:00.

Millwall Preview

The Lions are now 14 matches unbeaten and are just outside the top six and with six to go have a real chance of breaking in.  They have a tough run in ahead though with five of their last six against teams in the top ten.

At the Den, they are unbeaten in their last 12 league games and have won three of their last four.  The London outfit have conceded just four goals from their last eight at their own ground.

Just two of the last seven and three of the last 12 Millwall have played in the Championship have gone over 2.5 goals.  They have split their goals scored exactly 50-50 between home and away.

Millwall Team News

Ben Thompson (ankle) is a doubt while Byron Webster (knee) has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Bristol City Preview

Just five points from their last five fixtures means the Robins are out of the top six though they are still right in the mix.  They have a mixed run in with three matches against teams in the top ten and three against teams in the bottom ten.

Away from Ashton Gate, they have taken just five points from their last nine failing to win any of these.  A lack of road goals has been an issue of late with just five netted from their last eight.

Around 48% of the goals that Bristol City have scored this season have come in the 15 minutes prior to half-time and full-time.  26 of the 45 goals they have conceded this season have come on the road.

Bristol City Team News

Hordur Magnusson (knock), Matty Taylor (hernia) and Callum O’Dowda (ankle) are doubts.
