Millwall vs Bolton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) games features two sides who will be looking to bounce back after an opening day disappointment. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. It was a 1-0 loss at the City Ground for Millwall on the opening day of the season as they fell victim to a wonder strike from Nottingham Forest in a game they played well in. Bolton suffered a defeat on their return to the Championship as they went down 3-2 at home to Leeds. A Gary Madine goal and an Adam Le Fondre penalty did not prove enough to gain them a point. These two sides know each other well having done battle in League One last season with Bolton winning both games last season 2-0. It continues a run of head-to-head form that has seen the Lancashire side lose none of their last seven meetings.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I thought Bolton looked solid with a capable front-two at the weekend and while it will be a season of struggle the same can and should be said for Millwall. Given that little exists between the two sides and that the Lancashire outfit won both battles last season and it is the same men in the dugout I think they look worth a try along with the draw in the double chance market. Adam Le Fondre has penalties and an eye for the goal and I think he looks worth an interest in the anytime scorer market for Bolton.

Millwall Preview

At home, Millwall were strong last season winning 13, drawing six and losing just four of their 23 games. Their defence was tight shipping just 17 goals over the course of these 23 matches. Although they did not gain anything from their meeting with Nottingham Forest the Lions can consider themselves unlucky as they created a lot more goalscoring chances. Lee Gregory managed six shots (two on target) while our first scorer tip Jed Wallace also registered five shots (two on target). In the League Cup, they saw off Stevenage 2-0 thanks to a brace from Tom Elliott who they signed from AFC Wimbledon in the summer.

Bolton Wanderers Preview

On the road, Bolton looked quite strong last season winning 12 of their 23, drawing four and losing just seven times. One of the key features of their away games was a strong defence that shipped just 20 goals which was a League One best. Bolton ran Leeds close last time out but were behind it after going 2-0 down so early in the game. Gary Madine and Adam Le Fondre looked like they had the makings of a good partnership and the pair registered five shots between them on Sunday (three of which were on target). In midweek, they booked their place in the Second Round of the League Cup by seeing off League Two side Crewe 2-1. They were one behind before a goal each from Adam Armstrong and Derik Osede.

Bolton Wanderers Team News

David Wheater (back) and Josh Vela (ankle) are doubts while Sammy Ameobi (knee) is out for a few weeks.
