Millwall vs Birmingham City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday early evening (17:30) game features two sides in the bottom eight of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Millwall made it back-to-back defeats as they went down 1-0 at Griffin Park against London rivals Brentford. The Lions can feel a little hard done by as they shaded things on the expected goals data. Birmingham got off to winning ways under new boss Steve Cotterill as they defeated Cardiff 1-0. It was a tight game in which neither side created much but a 19th minute Che Adams strike secured them three much needed points. The last time these two sides met at the Den came in 2013 with the Blues winning that one and it continued a head-to-head trend that has seen the away team win each of their last three battles.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The match prices look about right as I am unwilling to say Birmingham will have solved all their problems on the back of one defeat. Millwall were poor in their last home game against Barnsley but generally the Den is a tough place to come so I would avoid a bet in the match markets. Steve Cotterill played a 4-2-3-1 system last time out and one of the three behind the striker (Isaac Vassell) netted (Che Adams). This time out look to the man given licence to get forward from midfield in Cheikh N’Doye who has been priced up on the fact that he has not scored this season. He has though not been placed in such a good scoring position as he will be in the next few matches. The Blues will be looking to keep things tight early on and earn the right to play against Millwall so it might make sense to take the time of the first goal to be later than 31:00 which the market places it at.

Millwall Preview

Back-to-back defeats has seen the Lions drop down the table to 17th though this still a decent return after 12 games played. This marks the start of a decent run of games with four of their next six against teams in the bottom-half. At the Den, they lost their last match which came against Barnsley but had won the three prior to that. The 12 goals they have netted in front of their own fans has only be bettered by Hull. 57% of their goals have come in the second-half with 43% coming in the 15 minutes just after the interval and just before the end of the game. The average time of their first goal scored is the 38th minute and the average time of the first goal conceded is the 43rd minute.

Birmingham City Preview

It is now six points from their last three for the Blues though prior to that they had taken two points from seven. They sit in 21st place and will hope to start climbing the table under new boss Steve Cotterill. Away from St Andrews, they have struggled with just one draw and five defeats from six matches. No side has shipped more road goals than the 13 the Midlands side have conceded. They are also struggling to find the back of the net having just netted eight times in their 12 fixtures. Not one of their goals this season has come in the opening 15 minutes of the first-half or the opening 15 minutes of the second-half.

Birmingham City Team News

David Stockdale (broken wrist) and Jason Lowe (hamstring) are back in training while Carl Jenkinson (dislocated shoulder) is unlikely to feature.
