Millwall vs Aston Villa Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in the bottom-half of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Millwall put to an end a three-game winless run (though are still without a win in eight) with a 2-2 draw at Nottingham Forest in midweek. Shaun Williams and Lee Gregory got a goal each to claim a point that was the least their performance deserved.

It was the final straw (or cabbage) for the Villa fans and owners on Tuesday night as a 3-3 draw marked the end of the road for Steve Bruce. Jonathan Kodjia, Tammy Abraham and Yannick Bolasie all grabbed one each but Preston were the better side and the hosts were fortunate to claim a point.

The two meetings between these sides last season saw the London outfit take four points with a 1-0 home win and a 0-0 goalless draw at Villa Park. The home side have not lost any of the last seven head-to-heads winning six of them.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to get involved in this game given the massive uncertainty about Aston Villa and how the replacement of Steve Bruce will work. Millwall are improving and could be due a win but is this the right time to be playing or Villa or the wrong, it is difficult to say.

I prefer a play on a Lions men to score and that player is Jake Cooper as the defender hit the target twice in midweek. He looks a decent each-way first goalscorer play against a Villa side that have been shipping goals.

Also, take the game to have a late goal as the last three for the London outfit have seen seven scored in the final 22 minutes while for the Midlands outfit there was three in midweek in this period.

Millwall Preview

The Lions are without a win in eight but recent performances have improved and they will hope to turn the corner soon. They have three of their next four at home so will hope to use this to climb from their position of 22nd.

At the Den, they have won just once this season losing twice and drawing on the other two occasions. All five at their own ground have seen both teams score with four of these going over 2.5 goals.

Millwall have been behind five times going into the break this season though just once at their own ground. 55% of their goals have come in the 15 minutes prior to half-time and the 15 minutes after it.

Millwall Team News

Shaun Hutchinson (knee) is their only doubt ahead of this fixture while Jed Wallace will return following a one-game suspension.

Aston Villa Preview

A run of just one victory in their last nine meant the end of the road for Steve Bruce who had Villa in 13th after his sacking. The club will use the international window to bring in a new manager with Dean Smith and Thierry Henry the early names in the frame.

Away from Villa Park, it has been a mixed bag with one victory, three draws and one defeat from five. All five the Midlands outfit have played on their travels have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Aston Villa have seen eight of their 11 in the Championship been level going into the half-time break. 21 of the 37 goals that they have been involved with this season have come in the second 45 minutes.

Aston Villa Team News

Keinan Davis (groin) and Harry McKirdy (dislocated shoulder) are doubts while James Chester is suspended following his red-card in midweek.
