Millwall vs AFC Bournemouth Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Millwall will be aiming to continue their adventure in the FA Cup when they welcome AFC Bournemouth at the Den on Saturday afternoon. Millwall gave away a two-goal lead to record a 2-2 away draw against AFC Wimbledon last time out in League One. Aiden O’Brien and Steve Morison gave Millwall the lead twice in the first half, but this wasn’t enough for Neil Harris’ side to grab all three points. On the other hand, AFC Bournemouth managed an impressive 3-3 home draw against Arsenal last time out in the Premier League. Charlie Daniels, Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser got on the scoresheet for Bournemouth, but Eddie Howie’s boys were only able to pick up a point after Simon Francis saw red in the 82nd minute, and Arsenal scored the equaliser in the stoppage time. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Millwall Preview

After a three-game losing streak across all competitions in the first half of December, Millwall managed to put their campaign back on track quickly. The Lions come into this tie off the back of a four-game unbeaten streak in the League One, winning three and drawing once in the process. Their impressive attack has been the key to Millwall’s recent success, as they managed to score at least two goals in the last four games in League One. Millwall have one of the best offensive records in the division with 41 goals in 25 league fixtures. Neil Harris’ men find themselves in 9th position in the standings tied on 38 points with the 8th-placed Peterborough, just two points off the top six. Millwall have been a strong side at the Den so far this season, losing just two of their last ten home fixtures in all competitions, and are currently on a three-game winning streak. Furthermore, Millwall have won four of the last five home meetings with Bournemouth, conceding just two goals in the process. Regarding their FA Cup recent record, Millwall have won three of their last four games, and are currently on a two-game winning run. Furthermore, the Lions have only lost two of their last nine home FA Cup fixtures, while winning five in the process.

AFC Bournemouth Preview

Bournemouth have struggled for consistency of late, but they looked much better over the past week. They managed a comfortable 0-3 win on the road at Swansea and followed this up with a 3-3 home draw against Arsenal. The Cherries had a 3-0 lead, but they lost the focus and conceded all three goals in the last 20 minutes of the game. Bournemouth currently sit in a comfortable 9th place in the Premier League table with 25 points under their belts after 20 league fixtures. Keeping the ball out of their own net has been Bournemouth’s main issue throughout this Premier League campaign as they have one of the most leakiest defences in the division, conceding 34 goals in 20 rounds. On the road, the Cherries were on a three-game losing run prior to their 0-3 win at Swansea in their most recent league trip. Overall, Bournemouth have only won three of their last ten away fixtures across all competitions. The good news is that Bournemouth picked up a 0-2 win in their most recent trip to the Den. Callum Wilson has been Bournemouth’s most prolific player in front of goal throughout this Premier League campaign, as the 24-year-old striker is currently leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 6 goals in his 17 league appearances.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Both teams have been involved in high-scoring affairs of late, so I’m expecting an open game with goals at both ends of the pitch. Furthermore, three of the last five meetings between these two sides have seen at least four goals scored. Although Bournemouth are the better team in this tie, Millwall looked incredibly strong on home soil recently, and they also hold a better head-to-head home record over Bournemouth. This having been said, I’m also backing Millwall to make a good game and to snatch at least one point.
