Middlesbrough vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday early evening (17:30) game is live on SKY TV and will have important implications on the promotion race.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Middlesbrough stretched their unbeaten run to six game last time out as they battled out a 1-1 draw with Brentford.  Adama Traore got their only goal in a match that the expected goals data suggests they were lucky to get anything from.

Wolves made it back-to-back victories with a 3-1 home defeat of Burton in their last fixture.  Benik Afobe was the star of the show as he grabbed a brace while Helder Costa also netted once.

The reverse fixture came on the opening day of the season and the Midlands outfit won that 1-0 thanks to a Leo Bonatini effort.  It ended a run of four straight victories for the Teesiders in head-to-head battles.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I think Middlesbrough in the draw no bet market looks the way to play this as Wolves have lost on the road to both Fulham and Villa recently.  Boro meanwhile have won four straight at home and seem to be finding life under Tony Pulis.

Four of the last six for the Teesiders and seven of the last nine for Wanderers have gone over 2.5 goals so I am surprised to see this as the outsider of the two options and recommend taking it.

Middlesbrough Preview

Four victories and two draws from their last six has moved Boro into the top six though with the chasing pack hot on their heels they cannot rest up.  They are among five sides from fifth down to ninth who are separated by just two points in a tight race.

At the Riverside Stadium, they have won each of their last four with two of these being by the same 3-1 scoreline.  Patrick Bamford has netted four times in his last three in front of his own fans.

Four of the last seven and five of the last eight Middlesbrough Championship fixtures have seen both teams find the back of the net.  Around 58% of their goals have come in the second-half with 41% in the final 30 minutes.

Middlesbrough Team News

Jack Harrison (abdominal injury) and Fabio (thigh) are doubts while Rudy Gestede (broken ankle) is unlikely to play again this season

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

The Black Country outfit have won their last two and three of their last four to ease some nerves after a run of three without a victory.  They are six points clear at the top (though have played a game more than Cardiff) and are 13 ahead of Fulham in third having played the same amount.

Away from Molineux, they have won just one of their last four going down to defeats at Fulham and Villa.  On just four occasions this season have they failed to net on the road in the Championship.

Each of the last four and seven of the last nine that Wolves have played have gone over 2.5 goals.  Benik Afobe is in good goalscoring form with four goals from his last four league appearances.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Diogo Jota (ankle), Bright Enobakhare (unknown), Joe Mason (stomach) and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (ankle) are doubts.  Carl Ikeme is a long-term absentee as he continues his fight against Leukemia.
