Middlesbrough vs West Bromwich Albion Match Prediction

By William Hall

Middlesbrough come into this game off the back of a 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup. The side player a much-weakened team in the fixture but were still able to progress into the next round. It was Stuart Downing who was able to score the decisive goal which proved so important for Boro. With West Brom already out of the FA Cup, they had ten days to prepare for this game. Their last match saw them beat Sunderland 2-0 at home which lifted them to 8th in the Premier League. Our SBAT preview will bring you a form guide, team news and betting preview.

Middlesbrough Preview

Middlesbrough have failed to show any kind of consistency all season up till now, as they find himself down in 16th. As it stands, Boro are just four points above the bottom three, a gap they will want to expand sooner rather than later. A win in this game will give them a much-needed boost going into a crucial part of the campaign. Midfielder Gaston Ramirez has been very impressive for Boro this season, but with him currently being out with a knee injury, Middlesbrough are failing to create too much in the final third. For them, the sooner the Uruguayan is back, the better. A 3-1 home defeat to West Ham in their last Premier League game would have been a huge knock to the player's confidence and looking at this fixture; you would say West Brom have been the better side of the two. It is going to be a tough game for them, but they have shown some quality this season, getting a draw away to Manchester City and thrashing sides like Swansea and Bournemouth. It really does show that they can do it on their day, but a lack of consistency is hurting them.

West Brom Preview

West Brom are having one of their best seasons in a long time. They find themselves 8th in the Premier League, just four points on 7th. They will feel that they can finish in the top seven come to the end of the season, which could give them a shot in Europe next campaign. Away from home is where they have been struggling this season. They have managed to win just one in their last five, losing three of those. Looking at this fixture, they will feel it is a good time to be able to get all three points and end their drought away from home. Salomon Rondon has been in good form this season, scoring seven goals in 22 appearances. His skill, power and quality could prove too much for Middlesbrough if he is at the top of his game. All round, West Brom have looked a much better side under Tony Pulis this season with the likes of James Morrison, Matt Phillips and Chadli all impressing. If they can transfer their home form into away, they could be a real force in this league in years to come. They have already shown that they can beat the teams that are struggling near the foot of the table and I feel they can go out and get something once again from this one.

Betting Predictions and Tips

For me, West Brom are looking a great side this season, but their form away from home does worry me in this game. Although Middlesbrough haven't had the best of seasons, if they do turn up, they do look like an excellent side. I cannot see this game being the most exciting, with both sides looking to get maximum points for very different reasons. West Brom are not the kind of team to sit back and defend like they used to be which is why I think they could snatch a goal in this game.
