Middlesbrough vs Nottingham Forest Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) features Aitor Karanka taking his current side to his former employers.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Middlesbrough have now gone three without a victory having been held to a 1-1 draw by struggling Burton on Easter Monday.  They needed a 90th minute to help rescue them a point after going behind after just six minutes.

Nottingham Forest were not in action on Easter Monday as their home tie with Barnsley was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.  They were last in action on Good Friday when they suffered a 2-0 road defeat to Millwall.

The reverse fixture came in mid-August and saw the East Midlands outfit win 2-1 thanks to a Daryl Murphy penalty and a Barrie McKay effort.  Ben Gibson got the only goal for the Teesiders who have lost their last two and three of their last four versus Forest.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Middlesbrough are the deserved favourites but given their recent stutters and the fact that Aitor Karanka might have his players motivated for this one against his former team then I would swerve the full-time result market.

Forest are not renowned for goalscoring but four of the last five at the Riverside have seen both teams score and given the odds on offer I would take an interest in yes that both teams will score.

Both side have scored around 55% of their goals in the second-half and as such backing the second 45 minutes to be the highest scoring looks the sensible play.

YES both teams to score

SECOND 45 minutes to be the highest scoring half.

Middlesbrough Preview

The Teesiders have picked up just two points from their last three which has put some pressure on their play-off hopes.  After this one they have four straight matches against opponents in the top so each match will be huge.

At the Riverside Stadium, they have won four and lost one of their last five with this defeat coming against leaders Wolves.  Patrick Bamford has netted six in his last four at his own ground while Adama Traore has three in the last five in front of his own fans.

Each of the last four and six of the last eight Middlesbrough have played in the Championship have seen both teams find the back of the net.  Around 57% of their goals this season have come in the second-half 43% in the last 30 minutes.

Middlesbrough Team News

Jonny Howson (unknown) and Fabio (thigh) are doubts while Rudy Gestede (broken ankle) is unlikely to play again this season.

Nottingham Forest Preview

It is now four without victory for the Tricky Trees though three of these have ended in draws.  They sit comfortably above the relegation zone 12 points clear of Barnsley with seven matches remaining.

Away from the City Ground, they have drawn three of their last five, winning one and losing the other.  They have blanked in four of their last five on the road though in the other they did score five times.

21 of the 39 matches that Nottingham Forest have played have gone under 2.5 goals and 30 of 39 under 3.5.  Around 56% of the goals they have scored have come in the second-half with 33% in the final 15 minutes.

Nottingham Forest Team News

Ashkan Dejagh (knee), Daryl Murphy (unknown), Jack Hobbs (back), Chris Cohen (knee), David Vaughan (unknown) and Jamie Ward (hamstring) are doubts.
