Middlesbrough vs Leeds United Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday evening (19:45) fixture is live on TV and features two sides looking to push into the top six of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Middlesbrough were involved in a dramatic game last time out drawing 3-3 at Sunderland in an encounter that also saw both teams have a player dismissed. Patrick Bamford grabbed a brace and Grant Leadbitter netted a penalty in a match that saw Adama Traore sent-off after just 37 minutes. Leeds registered their first victory since Boxing Day last weekend as they defeated Brentford 1-0 at Elland Road. Liam Cooper netted in the first-half though the expected goals data suggests United were a little fortunate. The reverse fixture came in the middle of November in Yorkshire and it was the Whites won that one 2-1. Pablo Hernandez and Ezgjan Alioski netted for the home team while Britt Assombalonga converted a consolation penalty for the Teesiders.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Despite the home advantage I cannot understand the prices on offer here and as such suggest you side with Leeds in the draw/double chance market. They beat a useful Brentford time last time out and have picked up draws against decent sides in Derby and Bristol City in recent times. Pierre-Michel Lasogga has found the back of the net three times in his last four appearances and against a Boro side without a clean sheet in their last five he looks value to get a goal at any time.

Middlesbrough Preview

The Teesiders are struggling to get a sequence of results together with two victories, two draws and two defeats from their last six. They sit in eighth three points behind Sheffield United in sixth place and must take advantage of three of their next five coming at their own ground. At the Riverside Stadium, they have won their last two beating Reading and Hull and are unbeaten in three. The last two Boro home matches have gone over 2.5 goals though the seven before that did not. Patrick Bamford has found some goalscoring form netting three of his four goals this season in his two previous appearances. Around 63% of the league goals Middlesbrough have scored have come in the second-half.

Middlesbrough Team News

Fabio (thigh) is a doubt while Rudy Gestede (broken ankle) is unlikely to play again this season. Adama Traore will miss out through suspension.

Leeds United Preview

It is now three unbeaten and five points from a possible nine for the Whites who are responding to well to new boss Paul Heckingbottom. They sit 11th six points outside the play-offs and will still harbour ambitions of cracking the top six. Away from Elland Road, they are without a win in five but they have drawn two of their last three. Five of their last eight on their travels have seen a goal netted in the final 25 minutes of the tie. Four of the last five Leeds have played have seen both teams find the back of the net and gone over 2.5 goals. Pierre-Michel Lasogga blanked last time out but still has three in his last four appearances.

Leeds United Team News

Pablo Hernandez (groin), Conor Shaughnessy (unknown) and Tyler Roberts (shin) are doubts while Luke Ayling (ankle) is a long-term absentee.
