Middlesbrough vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Middlesbrough come into the game on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Cardiff in the league last weekend. Boro probably can have few complaints about the result as they barely created a scoring chance. Hull come into this following an FA Cup tie on Friday night in a match that saw them lose 4-0 away to Chelsea. In the league, they were last in action on Saturday 10th where they won 2-0 at Nottingham Forest thanks to a goal each from Jon Toral and Harry Wilson. The reverse fixture came at the end of October (31st) and saw the visiting Teesiders come out on top 3-1. Martin Braithwaite, Britt Assombalonga and Grant Leadbitter (penalty) got their goals on that occasion while Kamil Grosicki netted for the Tigers who also had Michael Hector dismissed with seven minutes to go.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to side with a Middlesbrough side who have won just one of their last four at home though Hull have won just one of their last six so it is hard to take the hosts on with the visitors. The average time of the first goal scored by the Teesiders at their own ground is the 48th minute while the Tigers average time of first away goal scored is the 46th minute so take the game to have no early goal (set at 29:00) and 0-0 in the half-time correct score market.

Middlesbrough Preview

The Teesiders have taken just four points from their last four league games which has seen them drop to ninth place. They are five points away from the play-off slots though none of their next five are against teams in the top ten. At the Riverside Stadium, it has been just one victory, one draw and two defeats from their last four. They have conceded just 12 goals at their own ground this season which is the third best record in the division. Goal-scoring has been a problem for Middlesbrough this season with 40 netted which is just the 12th best in the division. 60% of the Teesiders goals have come in the second-half with 50% in the final 30 minutes.

Middlesbrough Team News

Fabio (thigh) is their only concern ahead of this game.

Hull City Preview

Victory in their last Championship fixture put to an end a run of nine without a win for the Tigers and gives them renewed hope in their fight against the drop. This is just one of two road trips they face in their next six as they look to put some points on board. Away from the KC Stadium, they had lost five straight before that victory over Forest which was just their second win on their travels this season. A lack of road goals has been an issue with just 12 netted in away matches this season which is joint fourth lowest. Just one of the last six and two of the last nine Hull have played in the league have gone over 2.5 goals. The last six Championship matches they have been involved have not seen a goal scored in the second-half.

Hull City Team News

Ondrej Mazuch (hamstring), Markus Henriksen (ankle), Stephen Kingsley (groin) and Abel Hernandez (Achilles) are doubts. Moses Odubajo and James Weir (both knee issues) are long-term absentees. Seb Larsson will miss the game through suspension.
