Middlesbrough vs Fulham Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides just outside the play-offs in the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Middlesbrough booked their place in the FA Cup Fourth Round with a comfortable 2-0 local derby victory over Sunderland with a goal each from Rudy Gestede and Martin Braithwaite. In the league, they won their last game 3-2 at Preston with a brace from defender Daniel Ayala and one from Jonny Howson. Fulham were eliminated from the cup by Premier League side Southampton who defeated them 1-0 at Craven Cottage. They were successful though in their last Championship fixture beating Ipswich 4-1 with Ryan Sessegnon and Aboubakar Kamara both grabbing two goals each. The reverse fixture came on September 23rd at Craven Cottage and ended in 1-1 draw. Aboubakar Kamara looked to have given the London side all three points when he netted in the 86th minute but Boro got right back in it through Cyrus Christie and that was how the match finished.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I like both these sides to have good second-halves of the season and think they can still be in the mix for the second automatic promotion slot. I find it hard to separate the pair so I would lean towards the draw in the match markets but think better value can be found elsewhere. Aboubakar Kamara is in great form for the visitors with four goals in his last two league appearances and I think the Fulham man should be backed to net at any time here. Sticking with the scorer markets and Daniel Ayala grabbed a brace with his head last time out showing Tony Pulis methods are working already. The Spaniard though is already on the radar of bookmakers so switch attention to Ben Gibson who also had a chance with his head in the last game and looks worth an anytime scorer interest here.

Middlesbrough Preview

It was a good holiday period for Boro who won three of their four fixtures and confirmed Tony Pulis as their new boss. They now sit in eighth place and with just eight points between them and Derby in second with 20 matches remaining they will not have given hope of automatic promotion. At the Riverside Stadium, they have won four of their last six with the two defeats coming against Derby and Villa sides both in the top six. The ten goals they have conceded in front of their own fans gives them the joint-third best home defensive record. Four of the last seven the Teesiders have played in the league have seen both teams score and gone over 2.5 goals. They have found themselves behind at half-time in four of their last five but have lost just two of these.

Middlesbrough Team News

Boro have no injuries or suspensions though Fabio is unlikely to be considered after requesting a move back home to Brazil.

Fulham Preview

It was an excellent festive season for Fulham who took ten points from the 12 on offer to climb up to 10th. Like Middlesbrough they are on the outside looking in but will believe they can claim the spot behind Wolves with twenty matches still to play. Away from Craven Cottage, it has been a mixed bag of late with two victories, two draws and two defeats from their last six. They are the joint-top away goalscorers in the division (along with Wolves) though their road defence is joint-sixth weakest. The last four league fixtures for the Cottagers have produced a total of 18 goals with all of them going over 2.5 and three going over 3.5. Aboubakar Kamara is a player in form with four goals in his last two in the league and he also scored in the reverse fixture.

Fulham Team News

Floyd Ayite (hamstring) is a doubt for this game.
