Middlesbrough vs Everton Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Middlesbrough host Everton at the Riverside Stadium on 11/02/17 as the home side look to end a barron winless run in the Premier League. Aitor Karanka’s side lost 1-0 away to Tottenham last time out which saw them drop to within a point of the relegation zone. Alternatively, Everton’s resurgence under Ronald Koeman maintained pace as they thumped Bournemouth 6-3 in a nine-goal thriller at Goodison Park. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Middlesbrough Preview

Middlesbrough’s freefall in the Premier League continued on Saturday evening, with Aitor Karanka appearing to struggle to find a way of turning around this current loss of form. Their 1-0 loss to Tottenham was their fourth in their last seven games, during which they have drawn three to muster a mere three points from a possible twenty-one. Despite staying in the game in the first half, Harry Kane’s penalty just before the hour mark proved to be enough for Spurs as Boro yet again struggled in front of goal. They have failed to find the back of the net on seven occasions in their last ten Premier League games and are unsurprisingly the lowest-scoring team in the league with nineteen goals from their twenty-four fixtures. With just four wins, they have also recorded the fewest number of victories in the Premier League, with bottom-three sides Hull, Crystal Palace and Sunderland all registering five wins to this point of the season. With Hull, Sunderland and Swansea all coming into a decent run of form, Middlesbrough have been dragged right back into the mix at the bottom when many felt their defensive solidarity would see them stay clear. Now, it seems, they need to have more than just the odd clean sheet to really solidify a place in next season’s Premier League.

Everton Preview

Everton made it five league wins from seven at home to Bournemouth last time out, in what was one of the most exciting games of the Premier League season so far. The Toffees appeared to be home and dry by half-time as Romelu Lukaku found the back of the net both sides of a James McCarthy effort to see them lead 3-0 at the break. However, Josh King hit a brace of his own in the second-half to drag Bournemouth back into it, only for Lukaku to score twice in two minutes to restore their three-goal lead and take his tally for the game to four goals. Harry Arter added a third for the Cherries, but Ross Barkley rounded the keeper - celebrating as he did so - to tap the ball into an empty net to make it 6-3. Everton are beginning to look a really solid side under Koeman in recent weeks, scoring nineteen goals during their seven-game unbeaten run. He seems to be getting the best out of Lukaku, who has now scored eight goals in his last eight appearances and looked unplayable during the victory over Middlesbrough last time out. Away from Goodison, they are also consistently picking up points, winning two and drawing two of their last four games on the road and will be looking to make it five unbeaten on their travels here.

Middlesbrough Team News

Antonio Barragan (knock), George Friend (calf) and James Husband (shoulder) are all doubts for Middlesbrough. Gaston Ramirez (knee) is back in training, although it is unclear whether he will feature or not having handed in a transfer request in January.

Everton Team News

Muhamed Besic (cruciate ligament), Yannick Bolasie (cruciate ligament) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (ankle) are all ruled out for Everton here. Ronald Koeman could name an unchanged lineup from the side which beat Bournemouth 6-3 last time out.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Everton have been great form in recent weeks and I’m expecting that to continue here. Middlesbrough have really struggled to get going since Christmas, taking just two points from a possible twenty-one since then and I’m expecting their winless run to be prolonged during the visit of Everton.
