Middlesbrough vs Derby County Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in the top eight of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Middlesbrough continued their recent good form as they defeated Birmingham 2-0 at the Riverside Stadium on Wednesday night. A Britt Assombalonga brace in the first-half meant that the three points were wrapped up early in a game the home team dominated. Derby continued their recent good run with a 2-0 home victory over QPR in their last fixture. The goalscorers on that occasion were Matej Vydra and Tom Lawrence who scored either side of the interval to secure the three points. These two sides last met in the 2015/16 season so there are no recent trends but Boro are unbeaten in their last five against Derby. The Rams have netted just once in these five fixtures.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to argue with the prices on offer which has Boro as the favourites given their home advantage but does not offer enough value on the visitors to make them worth a little interest. Both teams to score looks the play here despite two recent clean sheets for the hosts those were against Sunderland and Bimingham and this Rams attack is a much better proposition and has failed to score in just one of their last 15. Tom Lawrence was a great player for Ipswich at this level last season and after netting his first goal for the Rams in midweek he could be set to go on a run and he looks worth an interest to score at any time here.

Middlesbrough Preview

The North-Eastern outfit are finally living up to their billing as one of the favourites for promotion and four victories from their last five has moved them into a play-off position ahead of the weekend action. Each of their next three fixtures is against sides just below in the table with two of them at home. At the Riverside, they have won each of their last two without conceding which put to an end a spell of just one victory in the previous five. Just one of the last five at their own ground have gone over 2.5 goals and four of the last six have gone under 1.5 goals. Middlesbrough have the second best defensive record in the league having conceded just 15 times and have kept clean-sheets in three of their last five. Britt Assombalonga is proving to be money well spent having netted 11 for the season and six in the last seven.

Middlesbrough Team News

Rudy Gestede (thigh) is closing in on a return to the first-team squad.

Derby County Preview

The Rams are just outside the play-offs and behind their opponents here after a run of five victories, one draw and one defeat from their last seven. They still have a game in hand of most teams around the top and play four of their next six at home. At the iPro Stadium, they have won three of their last four and five of their last seven. In five of these seven they have not conceded a goal and in three of their last four they have won by the same 2-0 scoreline. In just one of their last 15 matches have Derby failed to find the back of the net and they have scored two or more in six of their last seven. Six of the last seven goals they have score have come in the second-half.

Derby County Team News

Bradley Johnson (rib), Jason Shackell (calf), Darren Bent (hamstring), Jamie Hanson (calf) and Mason Bennett (knee) are doubts while Kyle McAllister (groin) is a long-term absentee.
