Middlesbrough vs Burton Albion Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening game (19:45) at the Riverside Stadium features a home side in Middlesbrough expected to go well hosting a Burton side expected to struggle. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Boro got their first three points of the season last time out as they defeated Sheffield Wednesday 1-0. It was Rudy Gestede who was the hero of the day as his 20th minute goal proved the difference. Burton suffered a second successive league loss as they went down 4-1 away to Hull at the KC Stadium. It was going fine when Jackson Irvine levelled up in the 33rd minute but he was dismissed five minutes later and the Tigers took full advantage in the second-half. These two have never met before in the league but they have met twice in cup competitions with one each. Their most recent meeting came in the League Cup and it finished 1-1 in 90 minutes before Boro progressed in extra-time.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I think Boro will win but don’t want to back them at those prices so I was looking for a way to enhance it and them to win and under 2.5 goals looks the way to play given both these sides are struggling for goals this season. Given how many clean-sheets the North-Eastern side have kept this season I like a play on them to keep one here against a Burton side missing their key creative player in Jackson Irvine.

Middlesbrough Preview

The ante-post favourites for the Championship title have had a mixed start going down 1-0 to Wolves on the opening day and then seeing off Sheffield United 1-0 next time out. They have a strong squad but it is clear Gary Monk needs time to get them together. The North-Eastern side are creating chances and are averaging ten shots per game sadly they are only converting a poor 5% of these. The chances seem to be spread around the team with ten players all averaging at least one shot per game. If you consider the last time Boro were in the Championship it is now five in seven home clean-sheets. In five of their last six second-tier home games they have netted in the first 45 minutes.

Middlesbrough Team News

They have no registered injuries or suspensions.

Burton Albion Preview

The Brewers were expected to struggle this season and that so far is what they have been doing losing their first two games. They lost 1-0 at home to Cardiff on the opening day and then 4-1 at Hull after having a man sent-off. Burton need to look at closing chances created in open play as all five goals they have conceded this season have come from these means. Four of the five goals they have let in have come in the second-half. The Midlands outfit have created very few chances this season and the absence of Jackson Irvine here will not help. They have scored just six times in their last eight Championship road games.

Burton Albion Team News

Ben Turner and Jackson Irvine will miss the game through suspension while Liam Boyce is out most of the season with a cruciate issue.
