Middlesbrough vs Bristol City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture is an important one in the promotion race as it features seventh entertaining eighth.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Middlesbrough will be aiming to bounce back after going down 2-1 away to Sheffield United on Tuesday.  Boro found themselves two down and a man down at half-time (Grant Leadbitter was the man dismissed) but a Daniel Ayala goal after the interval gave them hope but they could find no further breakthrough.

Bristol City kept alive their play-off hopes with a 3-1 victory over Birmingham at Ashton Gate on Tuesday night.  Marlon Pack, Bobby Reid and Matt Taylor got a goal each though the expected goals data suggests the Blues were the better team.

The reverse fixture came early in December in a game that the Robins won 2-1 through joe Bryan and Jamie Paterson goals.  Boro needed an own-goal as they lost their last fifth successive meetings with City.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Given these two sides sit next to each in the table this shows that over a course of the season so even allowing for home advantage I think Bristol City look the value and will be backing them with the draw in the double chance market.

Five of the last six at the Riverside have gone over 2.5 goals and I like this to happen again here.

Middlesbrough Preview

The Teesiders have won just one of their last five which has seen them slide out of the top six.  Going into the weekend they sat seventh two points behind Millwall with their next three all against sides in the top eight.

At the Riverside Stadium, they have won five of their last six with the defeat coming against leaders Wolves.  Five of their last six in front of their own fans have gone over 2.5 goals with two going over 3.5.

Five of the last six and seven of the last ten Middlesbrough league matches have seen both teams find the back of the net.  Daniel Ayala is in good scoring form with the Spanish defender netting in each of his last two and three of the last six.

Middlesbrough Team News

Rudy Gestede (broken ankle) is unlikely to play again this season while Grant Leadbitter is suspended.

Bristol City Preview

It has been a mixed bag of late for the Robins with two victories, two draws and two defeats from their last six.  They are still alive in the play-off race sitting in eighth three points behind Millwall with two top-half and two bottom-half opponents remaining.

Away from Ashton Gate, they are without a victory in their last ten matches though five of these have finished all-square.  In six of their last nine on their travels they have failed to find the back of the net.

45% of the goals that City have scored have come in the two 15 minutes before the end of the first and second-half.  Joe Bryan has netted in two of his last three against Middlesbrough.

Bristol City Team News

Hordur Magnusson (knock) and Bailey Wright (thigh) are doubts.
