Middlesbrough vs Blackburn Rovers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in the top half of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Middlesbrough will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing 3-0 home loss to Aston Villa last time out. The Teesiders can have few complaints about the result in a game they were second best in.

Blackburn ended a three-game winless run with a 4-2 victory over Sheffield Wednesday last weekend. Danny Graham netted a hat-trick and Bradley Dack one to give them a deserved three points.

These two sides last met in the 2015/16 season so it is hard to read too much into their head-to-head record. For what it is worth Rovers are unbeaten in their six with Boro though four of these have ended in a draw.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Middlesbrough are strong favourites to win the game but given they have won just one of their last six at their own place and blanked in four of these I could not be backing them. Blackburn have struggled on the road recently especially against good sides so I would not be siding with them either.

50% of the matches both sides have played in the league this season have been level going into the break so this looks a good bet. In addition, both Danny Graham and Bradley Dack are in good form for the visitors and either could be tipped to get among the goals though it is the latter who gets the nod.

Middlesbrough Preview

Boro have lost just one of their last eight but with four of these ending in draws they are not picking up enough points to keep pace with the top two. They sit fourth in the table while bookmakers have them as fourth favourites for the title.

At the Riverside, they are struggling of late with just one victory in the last six blanking in four of these. They have though played five of the top eight already at their own place and only have two more of these sides to visit.

Britt Assombalonga is their leading scorer this season with five goals though he has gone seven without scoring. Jordan Hugill is in decent scoring form with three in his last four fixtures.

Middlesbrough Team News

Rudy Gestede (hamstring) and Ryan Shotton (knee) are doubts while Sam McQueen (cruciate) is a long-term absentee.

Blackburn Rovers Preview

Rovers have been a mixed bag of late with two wins, three draws and two defeats from their previous eight. They sit in tenth (five points from the play-offs) and bookmakers have them down as only joint 13th favourites for the title.

Away from Ewood Park, it has been a struggle of late with three defeats and one draw from their previous four conceding 11 times in these matches. They now face three straight on the road to top six teams.

Bradley Dack is the leading scorer for Blackburn this season with nine goals including three in the last five. Danny Graham has seven for the campaign including a hat-trick in midweek against Sheffield Wednesday.

Blackburn Rovers Team News

Jack Rodwell (concussion), Amari’I Kyren Bell (hamstring), Darragh Lenihan and Jacob Davenport (both hip) are doubts while Dominic Samuel and Ben Gladwin (both knee) have both been ruled out for the season.
