Mexico vs New Zealand Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Mexico and New Zealand will square off at the Olimpiyskiy Stadion on Wednesday evening, with both sides looking for their first victory at the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017. Mexico fought back from one-goal down twice to secure a 2-2 draw against Portugal on Sunday thanks to goals from Chicharito and Hector Moreno. On the other hand, New Zealand were beaten 2-0 by Russia in the opening fixture of the tournament on Saturday, in a game in which they delivered just two shots on target. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

It should be an easy game for Mexico as they looked impressive against Portugal on Sunday and they also hold a perfect head-to-head record over New Zealand. The odds are short for a home win, but Mexico to score a couple goals seems to be a decent bet.

Mexico Preview

Mexico extended their unbeaten streak across all competitions to four games thanks to a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Portugal on Sunday. Actually, the Mexicans have enjoyed an impressive run of form over the past year, having lost just once in their last 14 games across all competitions. They looked decent going forward over the past few weeks, scoring at least two goals in three of their last four games in all competitions. Mexico are doing very well throughout their World Cup qualifying campaign, as they sit comfortably on top of the table with 14 points after six rounds thanks to a record of four victories and two draws. They only managed a 1-1 draw against USA in their most recent World Cup qualifier a week ago, but they looked much better against Portugal on Sunday. Mexico should feel confident ahead of this clash as they have won the last five meetings with New Zealand across all competitions, scoring at least two goals in each of these. Giovanni dos Santos holds an impressive record ahead of this tie, as he managed to score four goals in his last four meetings with New Zealand.

Mexico Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns for Mexico ahead of this game.

New Zealand Preview

Meanwhile, New Zealand extended their losing streak across all competitions to three games as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Russia last Saturday. The most worrying fact is that New Zealand have failed to score in any of these games while conceding four. Despite this poor run of form, New Zealand find themselves on top of their World Cup qualifying group A table with ten points to their name after four rounds. They should have no problems in booking their place at the World Cup 2018, as they became the strongest team after Australia moved into the Asian qualifying process. Head-to-head, New Zealand suffered defeats in each of their five meetings with Mexico across all competitions, conceding at least two goals in each of these. The only good news is that they managed to find the back of the net in each of their most recent three meetings with the Mexicans. Chris Wood is one of their most dangerous players in front of goal, but he had few chances to score in New Zealand’s opener against Russia on Saturday.

New Zealand Team News

It’s probably to see the same lineup for New Zealand here as they have no fresh injury concerns.
