Mexico vs Jamaica Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Mexico will take on Jamaica at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena on Monday in the second Semi-final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, with both sides looking for a place in the final round. Mexico won 1-0 against Honduras yesterday thanks to an early goal from Rodolfo Pizarro. On the other hand, Jamaica managed to win 2-1 over Canada thanks to goals from Shaun Francis and Romario Williams. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Jamaica did give Mexico a lot of trouble in their group stage meeting and they also looked pretty solid against Canada in the quarterfinals. I’m expecting goals at both ends of the field, but at the end of the day, I think that Mexico will make another Gold Cup final appearance.

Mexico Preview

Mexico managed to beat Honduras 1-0 in the quarter-finals yesterday to book their place into the Gold Cup Semi-finals for the 5th edition in a row. An early goal from Rodolfo Pizarro was enough for Mexico to qualify for this stage of the competition. El Tri finished at the top of their Group C table with seven points under their belts after three rounds, registering two wins and one draw. The Mexicans have only scored six goals throughout this Gold Cup campaign, but, with all of their goals being scored by different players. Their solid defence has played a vital part in Mexico’s performance at this tournament as they have only conceded once in four games. Mexico’s form over the past month and a half have been impressive as they have only lost twice in their last 14 games across all competitions. Head-to-head, Mexico are undefeated in their last five meetings with Jamaica across all competitions, winning three in the process. Furthermore, the Mexicans have kept a clean sheet in four of those five games against the Jamaicans. Mexico can’t count on the likes of Chicharito, Jimenez or dos Santos at this tournament, but they still possess some good players in the shape of Pineda or Pizzaro.

Mexico Team News

Mexico have no fresh injury concerns ahead of this clash and I’m expecting them to start with the same lineup, with Sepulveda and Pizarro leading the attacking line.

Jamaica Preview

After losing to Curacao in the Caribbean Cup Final towards the end of June, Jamaica got their revenge here as they managed to beat Curacao in the opening group fixture of their Gold Cup campaign. This was their sole victory throughout the group stage as they registered two consecutive draws against Mexico and El Salvador in their last two group games. However, the Jamaicans looked very well against Canada in the quarter-finals and despite the fact that their opponents had a better ball possession, Jamaica’s two early goals from Francis and Williams were enough to book their place into the Semi-finals. This is the second time in a row when Jamaica managed to reach the Semi-finals of the competition. Actually, the Jamaicans managed to beat USA 2-1 in the Semi-finals last year to reach their first ever Gold Cup final. Similar to their Sunday’s opponents, Jamaica also hold a strong defensive record as they conceded just two goals in four games so far this tournament. Darren Mattocks and Romario Williams have been Jamaica’s most dangerous players in front of goal throughout the tournament, as the pair bagged four goals between them. The bad news is that Jamaica have failed to score a single goal in four of their last five meetings with Mexico across all competitions.

Jamaica Team News

Mattocks and Williams are Jamaica’s joint topscorers at the moment and they should definitely be in the starting lineup for this fixture.
