Metz vs Dijon Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Two of the lowest teams in Ligue 1 will square off at the Stade Saint-Symphorien on Saturday evening, as Metz will take on Dijon. Metz head into this clash on the back of a 3-1 defeat on the road at Saint-Etienne last time out, despite the fact that Fallou Diagne gave them the lead in the 21st minute. Meanwhile, Dijon suffered a dramatic 1-2 home loss against Paris Saint Germain last weekend, with Benjamin Jeannot scoring a late equalizer before Thomas Meunier netting a stoppage-time winner for the visitors. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview. Feel free to visit our Bet of the day page to check our best daily tips.

Betting Predictions and Tips

These two sides have been terrible in this early part of the season so it’s pretty difficult to predict the outcome of this clash. Both showed defensive vulnerabilities and this is why I’m fancying goals at both ends of the field. Metz have scored at least once in eight of their last ten home games across all competitions, while Dijon netted six goals in their last three league trips.

Metz Preview

Metz are the worst Ligue 1 team at the moment in time, having lost eight of their opening nine league fixtures. Their sole victory came on the road at Angers a month ago, but they have suffered three consecutive defeats since then. They are rock bottom of the league table with three points to their name after nine rounds, already three points behind safety. Metz looked terrible at both ends of the field throughout this campaign, scoring just four goals while conceding 17. The summer signing Nolan Roux has been Metz’s most prolific player in front of goal so far this season, as he is currently leading the club’s goalscoring charts with two goals under his belt. Their home form in this early part of the campaign has been terrible as Metz have suffered each of their four home league fixtures, scoring just two goals in the process. The good news is that Metz have won three of their last five home meetings with Dijon across all competitions, netting at least two goals in each of these. Last season, Metz managed to collect four points from their two meetings with Dijon, drawing nil-nil on the road and winning 2-1 at home.

Metz Team News

Ablie Jallow, Ibrahima Niane, Matthieu Udol, Milan Bisevac, Theodore Efouba and Yann Jouffre are all doubts, but Benoit Assou-Ekotto is still out through suspension.

Dijon Preview

Dijon have also struggled for consistency in this early part of the season, winning just once in nine league fixtures. In comparison with their Saturday’s opponents, Dijon managed to pick up six points in nine rounds. This leaves them in 18th spot in the Ligue 1 table tied on six points with Amiens, Lille and Rennes. Keeping the ball out of their own net has been Dijon’s main issue throughout this early part of the campaign, as they hold the worst defensive record in the division with 19 goals conceded in nine games. The only good news is that Dijon managed to score 11 goals in nine rounds so far this season, which is the best attacking record from the bottom five teams. Away from home, Dijon are winless in four league trips so far this season, conceding at least two goals in each of these. Overall, Dijon have only won once in their last 14 away games across all competitions. However, they did well to pick up victories in two of their last three visits to the Stade Saint-Symphorien, scoring at least two goals in each of these. Benjamin Jeannot has been the standout player for Dijon in this early part of the season, helping the team with three goals in his seven league appearances.

Dijon Team News

Wesley Lautoa and Julio Tavares are both missing through injury, while Vincent Rufli and Eden Massouema are both doubts. In addition, Cedric Yambere is missing through suspension.
