Toulouse will look to get back to winning ways in Ligue 1 when they travel to the Stade Velodrome to take on Marseille on Sunday night. Marseille managed a hard-fought 0-2 victory on the road at the newcomers Amiens last weekend, with Clinton N’Jie scoring a second-half brace within the space of three minutes. Toulouse, on the flip side, lost 0-1 at home at the hands of Bordeaux despite the fact they had more goalscoring opportunities and shots on target than the visitors. Marseille Preview

After back-to-back defeats at the hands of Monaco and Rennes, which has seen them concede nine goals, Marseille got back to winning ways in Ligue 1 last weekend as they beat Amiens 0-2 away from home. Sandwiched in-between these league games, Marseille also managed to beat Konyaspor 1-0 at home in their Europa League group stage opener. Despite the recent Ligue 1 struggle, OM still sit in a decent 6th spot in the standings with ten points under their belts after six rounds, five points of the second-placed Monaco. Marseille’s main issue throughout this early part of the season has been their leaky defence, as they have already conceded ten goals in six rounds. However, they have looked much better at the back of late, having kept a clean sheet in each of their last two competitive fixtures. Furthermore, Rudi Garcia’s men can count on their recent home form ahead of this tie as they have only lost once in their last 15 home games across all competitions, while winning twelve. In addition, OM are undefeated in the last six home meetings with Toulouse across all competitions, scoring two goals in four of these.

They did well to beat Rennes 3-2 at home prior to the International break, but they have failed to secure another victory since then. Toulouse drew nil-nil against the newly-promoted Troyes a fortnight ago and then lost 0-1 at home at the hands of Bordeaux last weekend. Similar to Sunday’s opponents, Toulouse have also struggled to keep the ball out of their own net throughout this early part of the season, as they hold the second joint worst defensive record in the division with twelve goals conceded in six rounds. Furthermore, their recent away form has also let them down as Toulouse are winless in the last nine away games across all competitions, losing five in the process. The most worrying fact is that Toulouse have conceded nine goals in their three league trips so far this season. Head-to-head, Toulouse are winless in the last four meetings with Marseille across all competitions, although they managed to secure two goalless draws in the previous Ligue 1 campaign.
