Marseille vs SC Bastia Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Marseille and SC Bastia will square off at the Stade Velodrome on Saturday evening in Ligue 1, with both in dire need of three points. Marseille only managed to snatch a point from their 1-1 away draw at Bordeaux last time out, despite the fact that they had an overwhelming 61% ball possession and 14 goalscoring opportunities. On the other hand, SC Bastia won 2-0 over Lorient on a neutral location without spectators, thanks to two late goals from Enzo Crivelli and Gael Danic. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Marseille should have no problems in picking up all three points in this one, despite the fact that a defeat will send Bastia in Ligue2. Marseille have only lost three of their last 15 home fixtures across all competitions, while SC Bastia suffered defeats in twelve of their last 15 competitive away games. Furthermore, Marseille are unbeaten in twelve home meetings with Bastia, scoring at least two goals in ten of these.

Marseille Preview

Marseille have been struggling for consistency throughout the entire season, but they looked incredibly strong over the past two months and a half. OM enter the fray on the back of a ten-game unbeaten streak in Ligue 1, winning five and drawing five in the process. Their back line has been near impeccable during this run, as OM allowed just five goals in their last ten league outings. This leaves Marseille in 5th in the Ligue 1 table with 59 points under their belts after 37 rounds, just one point clear of 6th-placed Bordeaux. This means that OM have their destiny in their own hands, as they need to win here in order to seal their place in the next season’s Europa League play-offs. On home soil, Marseille have only lost two of their 18 home league fixtures this season, and are currently on a four-game unbeaten run. Furthermore, OM are undefeated in their twelve home meetings with SC Bastia across all competitions, winning ten in the process. In addition, OM have scored at least two goals in ten of their twelve home games against the Corsicans. Bafetimbi Gomis and Florian Thauvin have been OM’s most dangerous players in front of goal so far this season, as the pair bagged 34 goals and eleven assists between them.

Marseille Team News

Patrice Evra and Gregory Sertic are both doubts, but Abou Diaby is back in training following his ankle injury.

SC Bastia Preview

On the contrary, SC Bastia head into this clash with renewed confidence following their hard-fought 2-0 win over Lorient last weekend. The Corsicans are still second from the bottom, but they are now just one point off the relegation playoff spot and two points behind safety. In order to stay alive in Ligue 1, they badly need a win here and hope that the teams above them, Lorient and Caen, will lose their games against Bordeaux and Paris Saint-Germain. Scoring goals has been Bastia’s main issue throughout the season as they hold the second worst attacking record in the division with just 29 goals in 37 rounds. Despite this negative record, Enzo Crivelli has enjoyed a decent campaign as he is the team’s top scorer with ten goals under his belt in his 23 league appearances. Bastia have been terrible on the road over the past seven months, losing twelve of their last 15 away games across all competitions. Furthermore, Bastia are winless in their twelve visits to the Stade Velodrome, conceding at least two goals in ten of these. The Corsicans were very close to secure a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture, but they conceded a stoppage-time goal.

SC Bastia Team News

Florian Marange and Farid Boulaya are both missing through injury ahead of this tie.
