Marseille vs Salzburg Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Marseille will be looking for a spot in the Europa League round of 32 when they welcome the already-qualified Salzburg at the Stade Velodrome on Thursday night in the group I final fixture. Marseille managed to secure a 1-1 away draw at Konyaspor last time out in the Europa League, with Wilfred Moke scoring an own goal in the stoppage time. Meanwhile, Salzburg won 3-0 at home over Guimaraes thanks to goals from Munas Dabbur, Andreas Ulmer and Hee-Chan Hwang. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview. Feel free to visit our Bet of the day page to check our best daily tips.

Betting Predictions and Tips

I expect Marseille to win here as Salzburg have already won this group. Marseille have only lost once in their last 15 home fixtures across all competitions. Furthermore, Marseille have won all of their four Europa League home fixtures this season, scoring at least two goals in each of these.

Marseille Preview

Marseille have only lost once in their last twelve games across all competitions and head into this tie on the back of a six-game unbeaten streak. They have only won once in their last four Europa League fixtures, but they are still in contention for a place in the knockout stages. OM sit second in the group I table with seven points to their name after five rounds, just two points clear of the third-placed Konyaspor. OM have been doing fine throughout their Ligue 1 campaign this season as they find themselves 4th in the standings tied on 32 points with the third-placed Monaco. They have been in terrific shape on home soil over the past five months, having lost just once in their last 15 games across all competitions. In addition, Marseille have won all of their four Europa League home fixtures this season, including games from the qualifying. The interesting fact is that OM have scored only four goals throughout this Europa League group stage campaign, while they netted 32 in Ligue 1. Florian Thauvin has been OM’s most prolific player in front of goal this season, having helped the team with eight nine goals and five assists across all competitions.

Marseille Team News

Boubacar Kamara and Gregory Sertic are both missing through injury, while Jordan Amavi is out through suspension.

Salzburg Preview

On the flip side, Salzburg head into this tie on the back of a 19-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, winning 13 in the process. They have won three and drawn twice throughout this Europa League campaign, which means they have already won the group regardless the outcome of this game. The Austrians looked incredibly solid at the back throughout this group stage campaign, having conceded just once in five rounds. They also managed to put their Tipico Bundesliga campaign back on track as they are top of the table tied on 41 points with Sturm Graz, but they have a better goal difference. Away from home, Salzburg have only lost once in their last 15 games across all competitions and are currently on a ten-game undefeated streak. In addition, Salzburg are unbeaten in five Europa League away games at the moment, scoring at least two goals in three of these. Munas Dabbur has been in excellent shape this season, as the 25-year-old midfielder is Salzburg’s top scorer in both Tipico Bundesliga and Europa League, scoring a huge tally of 15 goals. Stefan Lainer has also helped the team with two assists in this Europa League group stage campaign.

Salzburg Team News

Diadie Samassekou and Hannes Wolf are both doubts ahead of this trip.
