Betting Tips and Predictions

This could be a potential title decider in the Premier League, with these by far and away the best teams in the league so far. It should be an open encounter, but with no Paul Pogba for United, I’m expecting City to go 11 points clear at the top of the table.

Manchester United Preview

Manchester United secured qualification to the last 16 of the Champions League as group winners last time out with a 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow. A poor first-half performance saw United go in a goal down at the break, with Vitinho giving the Russians a shock lead. However, it wasn’t to last, as Romelu Lukaku equalised before Marcus Rashford scored the second of two United goals in the space of two minutes to turn the game on its head and secure a victory for the home side. That win made it four in a row for United in all competitions and they come into this game with four league wins in a row, also. United simply can’t afford to lose this game, with City already eight points clear of them in the title race and victory taking them 11 points clear. With no Paul Pogba in the side, there will be a huge void of creativity in United’s midfield, something which can only be compensated for by tenacity and aggression from the expected midfield pair of Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera. However, United boast a 100% in the Premier League at home this season, winning eight in a row at Old Trafford and this will be by far the toughest test their opponents have faced in the league this season. Many neutrals will be supporting United here, with the title appearing to be all but City’s for the taking should they win this weekend.

Manchester United Team News

Phil Jones, Nemanja Matic and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are all fit to feature, but Marouane Fellaini (knee) will be assessed. Paul Pogba in suspended.

Manchester City Preview

Manchester City prepared for this upcoming Manchester derby by resting a number of members from the first-team squad in their final Champions League group fixture against Shakhtar Donetsk. The Ukrainians needed a win to guarantee themselves a place in the knockout stages alongside City and went out with an aggressive intent to do so, going in 2-0 up at the half-time interval through efforts from Bernard and Ismaily. Sergio Aguero smashed home from the penalty spot in stoppage time but it wasn’t enough to prevent City from tasting their first defeat of the season in all competitions. Ending a run of 20 straight wins and 28 unbeaten, Pep Guardiola will certainly take defeat in what was ultimately an inconsequential result if it means his team can respond with a victory in what is their biggest game of the season domestically. City were handed a huge injury boost in the week with Guardiola confirming that David Silva would be ready to feature in the game, as both he and Kevin De Bruyne look to take advantage of a United team playing without the talismanic Pogba. City produced arguably their best performance under Guardiola at Old Trafford last season, completely dominating the contest as they won 2-1 away from home.

Manchester City Team News

David Silva has been passed fit, but John Stones (hamstring) and Benjamin Mendy (cruciate ligament) are both set to miss out.
