Manchester United Preview

Jose Mourinho’s record away to top-six sides in the Premier League at Manchester United was worsened in midweek after they were punished for a slow start during their 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. It took just 11 seconds for the hosts to take the lead when Christian Eriksen slotted in the opener when United failed to deal with a long ball straight from kick-off. Kieran Trippier’s cross was then turned into his own net by Phil Jones, as Tottenham stormed to what was a huge boost for their top-four hopes. As for United, they are now just three points above Liverpool and Chelsea, potentially leaving their place in 2nd under threat. With the title well and truly gone - Manchester City being 15 points clear with 13 games remaining - it seems United will now be involved in a four-team scrap for just three Champions League places in the Premier League between now and the end of the campaign. Even their form at home has been somewhat shaky by their own high standards, winning only two of their last five at Old Trafford in the Premier League following a run of nine wins in 10 before then. This is a key run of games for United, who, including Wednesday’s game, are in the midst of a sequence which sees them face Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool in the space of six games, along with their last 16 Champions League tie with Sevilla.

Manchester United Team News

Eric Bailly, Daley Blind (both ankle), Marouane Fellaini (knee) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (hamstring) are all set to miss out.

Huddersfield Town Preview

David Wagner is likely to have serious regrets about the way his side approached their fixture with Liverpool last time out, after going down without a fight during their 3-0 defeat at the John Smith’s Stadium. Emre Can’s deflected strike put Liverpool a goal to the good, before Roberto Firmino scored from an improbable angle to leave the Terries two goals down at half-time. Mohamed Salah converted a penalty towards the end of the game to seal one of the easiest three points Liverpool are ever likely to take, as Huddersfield failed to muster any kind of resistance to the top-four chasing side. Perhaps Wagner showed too much respect to his old friend Jurgen Klopp, or didn’t believe his team could beat them any other way, but it was astonishing to barely see them move up a gear at any point, especially after the interval when 2-0 down. It was clear they had attempted to use the Swansea blueprint on how to play the Reds, but a repeat performance at Old Trafford this weekend may well see an even worse defeat come their way. Huddersfield are clinging on above the relegation zone in 17th coming into this weekend, sitting just a point above Southampton after losing their last four in a row, conceding 12 goals in that time.

Huddersfield Town Team News

Scott Malone (knock) and Danny Williams (hip) will be assessed, but Sean Scannell (groin) and Elias Kachunga (knee) are ruled out.
