Manchester United vs Huddersfield Town Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer started his Manchester United in outstanding fashion after a 5-1 success over Cardiff City. Marcus Rashford’s free kick kicked off proceedings after just three minutes before Ander Herrera scored in the 29th minute. Víctor Camarasa’s penalty in the 38th minute gave Cardiff a ray of hope but it was taken out of the window by Anthony Martial’s outstanding goal just before half-time. Jesse Lingard’s brace in the second-half provided United with their biggest win of the campaign. Huddersfield were beaten 3-1 by Southampton at home as David Wagner’s men slipped closer to the bottom. Nathan Redmond and Danny Ings put the Saints in a very strong position going into halftime, but Philip Billing did pull one back for Huddersfield. Michael Obafemi, though, restored the two-goal advantage for Saints in the 71st minute.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Huddersfield have lost back-to-back games against United but the team may have been hoping for a better outcome based on the form shown by the Red Devils so far this season. The arrival of Solskjaer has provided a lift at United and the team are unlikely to look back at the nine dropped points at home this season. I would go with a win for United and over 2.5 goals considering the attractive football that was on display against Cardiff.

Anthony Martial came up with a brilliant team goal against Cardiff to take his league tally to 8 goals. The Frenchman is just one shy of equalling his goal record from last season even with the campaign yet to hit New Year’s day. I would pick Martial to score anytime.

Manchester United Preview

It took Solskjaer just one match in order to make a huge impression at United, but the Red Devils will face much sterner challenges over the course of the campaign than Cardiff City. The manner of the victory over Cardiff will provide new enthusiasm into United. Most of the players at United certainly have a far greater potential than they have displayed this season, but they seem to be playing with a smile on their face after the departure of Jose Mourinho.

Manchester United Team News

Alexis Sanchez (hamstring), Chris Smalling (foot), and Marcos Rojo are unavailable for Solskjaer.

Huddersfield Town Preview

David Wagner has a huge range of issues at Huddersfield with mounting injury problems to key players being one of them. Just when it seemed that the club would be able to pull away from the drop zone, Huddersfield have gone through a major slump in form. The points at home were seen as a key factor behind Huddersfield staying in the division last season but the team has lost three on the bounce at the John Smith’s Stadium. The lack of goals is the biggest problem for Huddersfield and the absence of players like Mooy only makes it difficult.

Huddersfield Town Team News

Aaron Mooy (ligament), Daniel Williams (knee), Tom Smith (hamstring), Jonathan Hogg (knee), and Abdelhamid Sabiri (broken collarbone) are unavailable for Huddersfield.
