Betting Tips and Predictions

In truth, United look a far more balanced outfit at present, with it clear to see an identity in their style of play. The same can’t be said of Everton yet, who I’m expecting to lose this game.

Manchester United Preview

Manchester United looked at home in the Champions League during the week, cruising to a 3-0 win over FC Basel at Old Trafford. Despite an early blow in the shape of a hamstring injury to Paul Pogba in the 19th minute, it was his replacement Marouane Fellaini who opened the scoring from Ashley Young’s excellent cross. Romelu Lukaku then powered in his first Champions League goal from Daley Blind’s cross before substitute Marcus Rashford did the same five minutes from time. At no point did United look in any real danger of not winning the game, with the team well aware that bigger tests are set to come in the competition as it progresses. Losing the influential Pogba for up to six weeks is also a huge loss for the team, with the Frenchman starting this season by playing his best football in a United shirt to date. Jose Mourinho’s side are unbeaten from their first five games in all competitions, winning four and drawing one to date, with this being arguably the sternest test they have faced so far. It will be a particularly poignant fixture for Lukaku, with this the first time he has faced his former side since leaving in the summer.

Manchester United Team News

Marcos Rojo (cruciate ligament), Paul Pogba (hamstring) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (knee) are all absent for the hosts through injury.

Everton Preview

Everton’s schedule was always going to make it tough for Ronald Koeman’s men to make a positive start, but even that won’t mask what has been an extremely disappointing start to the campaign. They were convincingly beaten away at Atalanta in the Europa League, conceding all three goals in the first half. Andrea Masiello, Alejandro Gomez and Bryan Cristante all netted for the Serie A outfit, as the Toffees got off to the worst possible start in their Europa League group. It’s now no wins in five in all competitions for Koeman and his side, with the Dutchman now under an ounce of pressure to start delivering results in the near future. Following their visit to Old Trafford this weekend, Everton face four successive games at Goodison Park in three different competitions, with six from seven at home in total, where they will be need to gain a positive streak of results. There is a distinct lack of balance in the Everton team at present, with Koeman recently attempting to accommodate three no.10s in Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Davy Klaassen into the same side. This is Rooney’s first return to Old Trafford since his transfer back to Everton and he would love nothing more than a goal back at his old stomping ground.

Everton Team News

Ramiro Funes Mori (knee), Ross Barkley (hamstring) and Yannick Bolasie (cruciate ligament) are all missing for Everton here. Seamus Coleman (broken leg) and James McCarthy (knee) aren’t yet ready to return to first-team action.
