Manchester United Preview

Jose Mourinho probably couldn’t have wished for a more satisfying victory over nemesis Arsene Wenger at the weekend, as his Manchester United team played the counter attack perfectly to win 3-1 away to Arsenal. A stunning start saw United surge into a 2-0 lead after just 11 minutes, with Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard getting on the scoresheet early on for the away side. Alexandre Lacazette brought Arsenal back into striking distance with an effort early in the second half, but Lingard scored again as United - who enjoyed just 30% possession and relied on a Premier League record 14 saves from David de Gea - came away with a huge three points. Mourinho has now seen his team win four Premier League games on the bounce since losing 1-0 away to Chelsea, but they remain eight points behind Manchester City, as they continued their relentless form with yet another victory. United have been perfect in the Champions League at Old Trafford thus far, winning both of their group games without conceding a goal and would’ve already booked their place in the knockout stages had Basel not scored a late winner in their last outing. Mourinho will allow little room for complacency from his side this midweek as they prepare for what is set to be a titanic Manchester derby this weekend.

Manchester United Team News

Eric Bailly (groin), Phil Jones (thigh), Michael Carrick (heart) and Marouane Fellaini (knee) are all set to miss out for Manchester United here.

CSKA Moscow Preview

CSKA Moscow were in a relentless mood at the weekend, securing a timely morale-boosting 6-0 home win over bottom-half side Tosno in the Russian Premier League. CSKA found themselves three goals to the good by half time as a pair of Vitinho penalties and a strike from Viktor Vasin left them virtually out of sight. Another three followed in the second half, with Bibras Natkho, Aleksandr Golovin and Pontus Wernbloom all getting their names on the scoresheet, though they still trail leaders Lokomotiv Moscow by seven points in the title race. CSKA kept their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages for the first time since 2012 with a huge 2-0 home win over struggling Benfica on matchday five of the competition, though it will take a monumental effort for them to secure their place in the last 16. Viktor Goncharenko’s men will need to better Basel’s result against Benfica to qualify, though they will be boosted by the fact they have already won both of their away games in the group stages so far, as well as both of their away clashes in the qualifying stages. European football is guaranteed regardless for this side, with defeat in Manchester confirming their place in the Europa League.

CSKA Moscow Team News

Bibras Natkho, Pontus Wernbloom and Roman Eremenko combine to make a trio of suspensions for CSKA. Georgi Schennikov (broken ankle), Alexei Berezutski and Georgi Milanov (both broken leg) are ruled out.
