Manchester United vs Chelsea Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Manchester United head into the game after a goalless draw with Sevilla in the first leg of the Champions League last 16 round. The Red Devils were second best for most of the game and had to thank goalkeeper David de Gea for coming out with a positive result in the first leg. Chelsea picked up a 1-1 draw with Barcelona in their first leg Champions League match. Antonio Conte’s team were clearly the best over the 90 minutes and took the lead through Willian in the second half. Andreas Christensen gifted Lionel Messi an equaliser with a poor back pass just a few minutes later.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

This is a fixture known for the cagey and intense games. Even though Chelsea have had the overall upper hand with three wins in the last six meetings, the blues have only managed one win in the last six visits to Old Trafford – United also have just one win in six home meetings with Chelsea. Four out of the last six meetings have been draws. I would back a draw in this game. Even if it is a home match, Jose Mourinho will not be in the mood for an adventurous game, especially against a top opponent like Chelsea. The game is expected to be a cagey affair. Both teams have averaged around 1.5 goals per match. I would back under 2.5 goals in this game.

Manchester United Preview

Jose Mourinho has seen his United team stutter and stumble in recent weeks, but the club have been able to maintain a strong position in all of the competitions. The win over Huddersfield Town provides the team with a quarter-final place in the FA Cup, while the away draw against Sevilla is still a good result in the Champions League. However, the lack of consistency in the Premier League has led to the likes of Liverpool closing the gap; the Reds are now just two points behind while there is not much difference in terms of goal difference. Romelu Lukaku is the club’s top scorer with 12 goals in the league.

Manchester United Team News

Jose Mourinho will be without Ander Herrera (hamstring), Marouane Fellaini (meniscus), Daley Blind (ankle), and Marcos Rojo (knock) due to injuries. Phil Jones has been rated as a doubt for the game.

Chelsea Preview

Chelsea have made massive improvements in recent weeks, as Antonio Conte has been rewarded for his impeccable attention to detail – especially in terms of tactics. After having suffered big defeats just a few weeks ago, Chelsea produced an impeccable performance against Barcelona. Apart from the mistake that led to the equaliser, the blues were just perfect. However, the energy spent in such a top performance is likely to show during the weekend, as the blues may suffer from tiredness towards the end. Eden Hazard is the new top scorer at Chelsea after having scored 11 league goals.

Chelsea Team News

Antonio Conte will be without Tiemoue Bakayoko (knock) and David Luiz (ankle) due to injuries.
