Manchester United vs Celta Vigo Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Manchester United will look to build on last Thursday’s 1-0 away win over Celta Vigo when they welcome OS Celestes at the Old Trafford for the second leg of their Europa League Semi-finals tie. Marcus Rashford gave Manchester United the edge in this tie last Thursday thanks to a superb free-kick, which was his first senior set-piece goal. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Although both sides have struggled recently, Manchester United looked a little bit better than Celta Vigo in this term. Furthermore, Manchester United have been a difficult side to beat at home over the past seven months, as they are unbeaten in the last 24 home competitive fixtures. I’m backing Manchester United to pick up another victory in this one, but I’m not expecting a high-scoring game as both sides looked poor going forward recently.

Manchester United Preview

Manchester United’s twelve-game unbeaten streak across all competitions ended at the weekend as they were beaten 2-0 on the road at Arsenal in the Premier League. United’s recent form in the Premier League hasn’t been very good as they drew two and lost one in their last three league outings. The good news is that the Red Devils have kept a clean sheet in four of their last six games in the Premier League. Manchester United currently sit in 5th position in the league table with 65 points under their belts after 35 rounds, four points of the 4th-placed and their city rivals Manchester City. Despite their current position in the standings, the Red Devils still hold the second best defensive record in the division with just 27 goals conceded in 35 league fixtures. At the other end of the field, United only managed 51 goals in 35 rounds, including 17 from their top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However, the Swedish striker is out for the rest of the season due to a cruciate ligament injury. On home soil, Manchester United have been a tough nut to crack throughout the season, as they are unbeaten in the last 24 home fixtures across all competitions. In addition, the Red Devils have won all six of their European home fixtures this season and kept a clean sheet in four of these.

Manchester United Team News

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Ashley Young are all missing through injury, while Ro-Shaun Williams is a doubt. In addition, Marouane Fellaini is out through suspension.

Celta Vigo Preview

On the contrary, Celta Vigo have endured a disappointing run of form over the past month, winning just two of their last ten games across all competitions. Os Celestes head into this tie on the back of a six-game winless streak in all competitions, losing the most recent five of these. They were narrowly beaten 1-0 at home by Manchester United last Thursday and followed this up with a humiliating 3-0 defeat at Malaga in La Liga at the weekend. The most worrying fact is that Celta have failed to score a single goal in four of their last five games across all competitions. Overall, Celta Vigo had a disappointing La Liga campaign as they find themselves only in 12th spot in the standings with just 44 points to their name after 35 rounds, already 18 points off the European places. Keeping the ball out of their own net has been Celta’s main issue throughout this La Liga campaign, as they hold one of the worst defensive records in the division with 60 goals conceded in 35 league outings. Celta’s recent away form has been a complete mixed bag with four defeats, four wins and two draws in their last ten away games across all competitions. The good news is that Celta have only lost once in their six European away games this season, and have won three of those games 2-0.
