Manchester United Preview

Having come from behind at the Bet365 Stadium, Manchester United will have been disappointed not to have taken three points away from Stoke last weekend after drawing 2-2. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting opened the scoring for the Potters with his first goal for the club, but Paul Pogba’s header was turned in by the unaware Marcus Rashford to leave it at 1-1 heading into the break. Romelu Lukaku then took two attempts to beat Jack Butland in the Stoke goal to give United the lead, but Choupo-Moting’s header levelled proceedings once again. Despite dropping points, United still sit top of the Premier League after four games, netting twelve goals in the process - four of which have been bagged by Lukaku. Jose Mourinho will now be attempting to guide his side to a deep run in Europe’s elite club competition after winning the Europa League last term. They are unbeaten in their previous nine games at Old Trafford in the Champions League, with Real Madrid being the last side to beat United in the competition in what was Sir Alex Ferguson’s final European game in charge.

Manchester United Team News

Both Phil Jones and Eric Bailly are suspended here, meaning Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof should form a reshuffled defence. Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (both knee) are long-term doubts.

Basel Preview

Basel’s recent disappointing form continued at the weekend after losing a lead at home to Lausanne Sport to fall to a 2-1 defeat. Ricky van Wolfswinkel’s 29th minute penalty appeared to set them on their way to three points, but defender Marek Suchy’s red card proved to be a huge setback, as Benjamin Kololli equalised a minute after the dismissal. Despite Lausanne’s wing-back Nicholas Getaz also seeing red shortly afterwards, Joel Geissman netted as the bottom-of-the-table side stunned the reigning Swiss champions in their own back yard. Raphael Wicky’s team have now taken just one point from their previous three league games, allowing Young Boys and FC Zurich to surpass them in the Super League table. Basel will be hoping to fare better in the Champions League this season than they did last, where they took just two points from a group which included Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Ludogorets. Striker van Wolfswinkel has been in excellent form at the start of this season, scoring seven times in seven league games as he makes his first return to play on English soil since leaving Norwich City.

Basel Team News

Germano Vailati (shoulder), Alexander Fransson (ankle) and Dimitri Oberlin (hip) are all set to miss out for the away side here.
