Manchester United vs AFC Bournemouth Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Manchester United face Bournemouth at Old Trafford on 13/12/17 as the home team look to pick themselves up from a hugely disappointing result from the weekend. United lost 2-1 at home to Manchester City on Sunday, as Bournemouth drew 2-2 away to Crystal Palace. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Despite the defeat at the weekend, United will be fuelled to bounce back in style here, though many feel the title is now beyond their reach. Bournemouth are without a win in four and I can’t see them getting a result here.

Manchester United Preview

Sunday perhaps brought an end to the shortest title race in Premier League history after Manchester City completed a 2-1 win over Manchester United to move 11 points clear at the top of the table. Of all the ways to lose to City, conceding from two set pieces is one of the least expected and desired methods, particularly for a coach like Jose Mourinho who takes extreme pride in his team’s organisation. David Silva poked home from six yards out, and while Marcus Rashford pulled United level just before half-time, Nicolas Otamendi struck the winning goal early in the second half. Mourinho will have been concerned by the gulf in class between the two sides, with City deserving to win by more than the one-goal margin they eventually did at the end of the 90 minutes. Now 11 points shy of their city rivals, United will be fully aware of just how stark the challenge they face to catch Pep Guardiola’s men is, though they have previous in chasing teams down at the top. City are the only side to defeat United at Old Trafford in the Premier League since January 2016 and the only team to beat Jose Mourinho at home, with the Red Devils winning seven in a row in the league prior to that.

Manchester United Team News

Eric Bailly (groin), Marcos Rojo (head) and Marouane Fellaini (knee) are all set to miss out. Paul Pogba remains suspended for the next two games.

AFC Bournemouth Preview

Bournemouth survived a late scare to come away with a decent point at Crystal Palace on Saturday, drawing 2-2 at Selhurst Park. Jermain Defoe has endured a somewhat underwhelming return to the Cherries so far this season but enjoyed by far his best day since returning, opening the scoring 10 minutes into the game. It seemed Bournemouth would go in behind at the break when Luka Milivojevic and Scott Dann netted for the home side, but Defoe scored once again to level proceedings. Then, in the final minute of the game, Christian Benteke had the chance to win it for Palace from the penalty spot but saw his unconvincing effort saved by Asmir Begovic. So, no wins in four Premier League games for Bournemouth, who have lost just once during that time and are perhaps beginning to turn performances that at the start of the season resulted in defeats to draws. They are also unbeaten in four games away from home with two wins and two draws, with this being just the second time that Bournemouth have gone on such a run in the Premier League. Facing United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City in their next four games, Eddie Howe’s men face an extremely testing fortnight or so ahead.

AFC Bournemouth Team News

Tyrone Mings (back) is ruled out, while Brad Smith (hip) and Adam Federici (knee) remain doubtful.
