Manchester City Preview

Raheem Sterling proved to be the hero for the second time inside a week on Wednesday night as Manchester City left it late once more to beat Southampton 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium. Kevin de Bruyne’s deflected free-kick gave City the lead at the start of the second half, but Oriol Romeu turned home Sofiane Boufal’s cutback to pull the away side level. With it looking as if City would have to settle for just their second draw of the season, Sterling scored a screamer from the edge of the box in the sixth minute of stoppage time to seal yet another three points for this rampant City side. A win here would see City take their streak of wins to 20 consecutive games in all competitions, highlighting just how overwhelmingly dominant they have been this season. Pep Guardiola’s men have been sensational across all fronts this term, with perhaps the most surprising aspect of their campaign thus far coming in the fact that their only dropped points came against a struggling Everton side. Although De Bruyne has stolen most of the headlines for City this season, Sterling has been just as important for this side, having scored 13 goals in all competitions and already scored 4 winning goals for the team.

Manchester City Team News

Defenders John Stones (hamstring) and Benjamin Mendy (cruciate ligament) are still missing for Manchester City.

West Ham United Preview

West Ham’s woes deepened even further away to Everton last time out, with the side looking more and more like a team that is set to face the drop this season. Everton themselves looked a team in serious danger before Wednesday but made light work of the Hammers, with Wayne Rooney scoring twice in the first half to put the Toffees in a comfortable position. Rooney then completed his hat-trick with a sublime effort from his own half, before Ashley Williams headed home their fourth twelve minutes from time. West Ham themselves had their chances, most notably when Manuel Lanzini was unable to convert from the penalty spot with the score at 2-0, but this was an extremely damning result for David Moyes, who has plenty to work on with this team. West Ham have failed to win any of their last seven games in the Premier League, resulting in them falling into the relegation zone and they can’t be feeling too confident ahead of a trip to Man City. The Hammers have taken just three points from a possible 24 away from home this term and have won just one game on the road since March. Another defeat here could leave them bottom of the table and leave morale at an all-time low.

West Ham United Team News

Sam Byram (thigh) and Jose Fonte (ankle) are ruled out, while Javier Hernandez (hamstring) is a doubt. James Collins (ankle) is available once again.
