Manchester City host Southampton at the Etihad Stadium on 29/11/17 as Pep Guardiola’s men look to sustain this incredible winning streak in the Premier League. City were 2-1 winners away to Huddersfield at the weekend, as Southampton returned to winning ways with a 4-1 thrashing of Everton. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Despite Southampton’s marked improvement against Everton at the weekend, this is a completely different kettle of fish for the Saints to deal with. I’m expecting another City win as they continue their title challenge.

Manchester City Preview

Sunday saw us introduced to a new, gritty side of this Manchester City team, as they fought from behind to secure a 2-1 victory away to Huddersfield Town. Nicolas Otamendi was helpless as he netted an own goal on the stroke of half-time to put Huddersfield ahead, as Christoph Schindler’s flicked header was diverted home off the Argentinian’s shoulder. However, City were level less than two minutes into the second half as Sergio Aguero scored from the penalty spot, before Raheem Sterling eventually won the game for the league leaders with a fortunate effort six minutes from time. The result now takes City’s winning streak to 18 straight games in all competitions, as they approach a month in December which features two pivotal fixtures in Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the space of a week. It’s incredible that Everton are the only side to hold City to a draw this season, with Pep Guardiola’s side otherwise boasting a 100% record in all competitions. City are unbeaten at home in the Premier League in 2017, recording 11 wins and five draws in that time, already scoring 24 goals in six home games this season. Guardiola will want to see his side produce a dominant display against a side who City have only beaten once in their last three meetings and were held to a 1-1 draw by at the Etihad last term.

Defenders John Stones (hamstring) and Benjamin Mendy (cruciate ligament) are both missing once again for Manchester City.

Southampton Preview

Southampton produced undoubtedly their most impressive performance of the season so far on Sunday, as Mauricio Pellegrino watched his side ease to a 4-1 victory over a hopeless Everton side at St. Mary’s. Dusan Tadic opened the scoring for Southampton in the 18th minute, although they were pegged back in the last minute of the first half after a stunning goal from Gylfi Sigurdsson. Despite the setback, Charlie Austin - who was making his first start of the season - scored two carbon copy headers inside the opening 15 minutes of the second half to put the Saints two goals to the good, before Steven Davis added gloss to the scoreline with an excellent finish late on. Southampton fans have had to put up with a number of drab attacking displays in the past 18 months or so, with this being the first time they have seen their side score four goals at home since May 2016. Now they will be hoping to repeat Sunday’s performance away in what will undoubtedly be the toughest test they have faced so far this season. Southampton’s away form isn’t especially encouraging with regards to their hopes of doing so, having managed just one win from five on the road so far, scoring a total of just three goals in those games so far. With City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United in five of their next eight games, this is set to be a season-defining month for the Saints.

Southampton Team News

Matt Targett (leg) is the only injury concern for Southampton.
