Manchester City vs Manchester United Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Manchester City moved a step closer towards the league title after a 3-1 win over Everton at Goodison Park. A splendid first-half performance was capped by goals from Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus, and Raheem Sterling. Even though City were unable to keep a clean sheet after Yannick Bolasie’s second-half goal, Guardiola was delighted with the performance. However, City went on to lose 3-0 in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Liverpool. Manchester United made it back-to-back 2-0 wins after beating Swansea City by this score at Old Trafford. Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring after just five minutes and Alexis Sanchez doubled their advantage 15 minutes later.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The motivation for City to win the title in this game is immense – especially after being pushed to the brink of a Champions League exit by Liverpool. City are unbeaten at home this season and have dropped only two home points throughout the campaign. Meanwhile, United’s away record is less than spectacular with a win record of just over 50%. Manchester United are unlikely to stand in the way of City’s push for the title.

City have been destroying every opponent in their way, but they are up against a huge match at Etihad stadium this weekend. United are excited to come in with a defensive display which will complicate matters. The last two meetings between these two teams at the Etihad stadium have been cagey games. I would back a match with under 2.5 goals.

Manchester City Preview

City have had the huge disappointment of a big Champions League defeat, but those memories can be quickly erased by sealing the Premier League title in the most memorable fashion – against rivals Manchester United. Guardiola received criticism in various quarters after a trophyless first season at Manchester City, but he is close to sealing the title in record time for the blues. The 16-point advantage for City means that the blues can win the title by getting a victory this weekend. It should not be a tough task for a team which has picked up 27 wins in the 31 league matches.

Manchester City Team News

Sergio Aguero is the only City player doubtful for the game due to a knee injury.

Manchester United Preview

Jose Mourinho has a huge responsibility of preventing archrivals Manchester City from claiming the league title in a Manchester derby. Despite having spent vast sums of money, Mourinho is in serious danger of handing one of his biggest nemesis a league title. United remain on course to hitting a tally of 89 points but they have been second best to City almost every front. A lot of disgruntled United supporters would not be ready to see another defensive display from the team. Strong defensive performances have been the feature of United, but City have excelled even on this front. Romelu Lukaku has been in fine form and has taken his league tally to 15 following the goal against Swansea.

Manchester United Team News

Angel Gomes and Sergio Romero (knee) are the players missing from action for Manchester United.
