Manchester City vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Manchester City host Hull City at the Etihad Stadium on 08/04/17 as two sides at opposite ends of the table meet in the Premier League. Manchester City were unable to prevent Chelsea from claiming another home three points last time out, losing 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in midweek. Hull meanwhile took a huge step towards survival after they beat Middlesbrough 4-2 at the KCOM Stadium. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

For all of City’s struggles to put teams away at home this season, I’m backing them to get three points here against a Hull team who struggle significantly away from home. With Hull conceding nine in their last three away games, I’m expecting goals in this one.

Man City to score in both halves - 4/7

Over 1.5 first half goals - EVS

Sergio Aguero to score two or more - 7/4

Man City Preview

Manchester City come into this game without a win in their last four matches in all competitions following their 2-1 loss at Chelsea on Wednesday night. Eden Hazard opened the scoring for the home side after just ten minutes, but Sergio Aguero restored parity just fifteen minutes later. However, Hazard scored the decisive goal before half-time, initially seeing his penalty saved by Willy Caballero but reacted quickest to tuck home the rebound. City’s faults have been highlighted in their last three matches, facing Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea in successive weeks, but have taken just two points from a possible nine in that time. In comparison with their rivals, City aren’t at the level they would expect to be at present, with another summer of imports, particularly in defensive areas, set to be forthcoming. At the Etihad, they have drawn three of their last four Premier League games, while each of their last three wins at home have come by just a single goal. In their last eleven at home, they have won four, drawn six and lost one, with just one of those mentioned victories coming by more than a one-goal margin, proving their struggle to put teams away when they come and play defensive football.

Hull Preview

Hull have enjoyed an extremely productive four days in the Premier League this past week, winning two home games to lift themselves out of the relegation zone. Against Middlesbrough on Wednesday night, Marco Silva’s side brought their shooting boots, and although Alvaro Negredo opened the scoring for the away side, Lazar Markovic brought them level soon after. Forwards Oumar Niasse and Abel Hernandez then each helped themselves to goals, before Marten de Roon then ensured a thrilling half-time ended 3-2. Harry Maguire’s second-half header won the game for the Tigers, who took a huge step towards safety, climbing out of the relegation zone as a result of this victory. Admittedly, they were aided by Tottenham’s late showing, as they upset Hull’s rivals for the drop Swansea with three goals in the final six minutes of their contest on the same evening. Their home form of late has been exceptional, winning three in a row and have won just of their last seven, drawing their other two. Away, though, they remain pretty dire, with just two draws to show for their previous fourteen games, the rest all being defeats. It’s tough seeing them being able to rely solely on their home form and they will be hoping to pick up at least a few more draws between now and the end of the campaign.
