Manchester City vs Everton Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Manchester City host Everton at the Etihad Stadium on 21/08/17 in a Premier League clash between two sides who won on the opening day of the season. City were comfortable victors at Brighton, cruising to a 2-0 win at the AMEX Stadium as Everton enjoyed a similar afternoon’s work, beating Stoke City 1-0 at Goodison Park. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Pep Guardiola will be looking for his side to replicate the start they made last season by keeping the winning feeling ongoing on Monday night. Everton will be a good examination of just how good this City side are, but I’m expecting the home side to come out on top.

Manchester City Preview

Many expected Manchester City to enjoy a comfortable evening’s work against Brighton on the opening weekend and so proved to be the case, as the Seagulls struggled to pose a threat to Pep Guardiola’s side. Though it took them until the 70th minute to break the deadlock, City were always in control of this game and were fully-deserving of Sergio Aguero’s opener. A Lewis Dunk own goal doubled their advantage, as the season’s title favourites cruised to three points at the AMEX without particular resistance from their opponents. Stretching back to last season, City have now lost just one of their last eighteen games in the Premier League and will be pleased with the performances of their new defensive recruits at Brighton, having spent in excess of £100m on Ederson, Kyle Walker and Danilo, as well as Benjamin Mendy, who is yet to feature due to injury. Only Chelsea were able to beat City at the Etihad last season and towards the top of Guardiola’s priorities this season will be to cut down their number of home draws, after being held to a point on seven occasions last time out.

Manchester City Team News

Benjamin Mendy is back from injury and could feature for the hosts here, leaving Pep Guardiola with a fully-fit squad to choose from for Monday night’s clash.

Everton Preview

The romance of Wayne Rooney’s return to Everton made it compulsory that it was he who scored the winning goal on his first Premier League appearance for the Toffees since leaving in 2004. With the game about to enter halftime goalless, Rooney burst explosively into the box and powered Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s cross home with his head, leaving Jack Butland with no chance of denying him. Although they were able to secure the three points, the overall feeling from the game is that there is still plenty more to come from this Everton team, who defeated a Stoke side that look like they may ultimately struggle this season. Gylfi Sigurdsson has now arrived to add yet another attacking midfield option to Ronald Koeman’s hand, as the club look to break their way into the top six. If they are to do so, their away form is going to have to improve significantly. Everton finished last season with no wins in their final eight away matches and managed just four victories on the road all season - collecting just two points from a possible eighteen when visiting sides that finished in the top six.

Everton Team News

Long-term absentees Seamus Coleman (broken leg), Ramiro Funes Mori (knee) and Yannick Bolasie (cruciate ligament) are all missing once again for Everton. James McCarthy (knee) is back in training, while Gylfi Sigurdsson could make his debut for the club.
