Manchester City vs Brighton & Hove Albion Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Pep Guardiola saw his Manchester City team beat Cardiff City 5-0 to register their second biggest win of the campaign. Once Sergio Aguero broke the deadlock with his 32nd minute strike, Bernardo Silva and Gundogan added a goal each to hand City with a 3-0 half-time lead. A brace from Riyad Mahrez ensured a big win for City, who beat Oxford United 3-0 in the League Cup. Brighton’s two-game unbeaten streak ended with a 2-1 loss against Tottenham. Hughton’s tactics took a decisive blow when Harry Kane converted a penalty just before half-time. Erik Lamela pushed Spurs even further ahead and the late goal from Anthony Knockaert only became a consolation.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Manchester City are expected to come in with a significant number of goals early in the first half to try and put the game beyond the reach of Brighton. This would allow City to focus on the upcoming Europa League match against Hoffenheim. City were able to win at half-time and full-time in four out of the last six games. Hence, there is not much value in backing a win at both halves for City. Instead, Brighton have conceded more than the first half and I would back City to score highest in the first half.

Brighton have been able to score twice against the likes of Fulham and Southampton, but the club generally do not perform well in away games. City have kept back-to-back clean sheets since conceding twice against Lyon. I would go with a clean sheet for City.

Manchester City Preview

The sign of a great team is to recover quickly from a major setback and Manchester City proved exactly the same by quickly recovering from the loss against Lyon in stunning fashion. The comprehensive wins over Cardiff City and Oxford United may not be a great test of Guardiola’s all-star team but such results will be of massive importance in order to keep the momentum ahead of the upcoming big games. City are up against the likes of Hoffenheim and Liverpool before the international break and Guardiola will not be interested in any slipups.

Manchester City Team News

Kevin De Bruyne (knee), Benjamin Mendy (foot), and Claudio Bravo (Achilles tendon) are unavailable for City.

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview

Chris Hughton’s team have been able to open up a decent advantage over the relegation zone even in this early stage of the campaign, but the lack of wins will be a worry for the manager. The Seagulls are up against the likes of West Ham and Newcastle in the next few league matches. The club will target games against teams in and around them in the table, but it is important to preserve the decent defensive run going and not suffer heavy defeats against the top teams. Brighton have been able to salvage a lot of pride against the top teams after losing by not more than a one goal margin – against the likes of Liverpool and Spurs.

Brighton & Hove Albion Team News

Dale Stephens (hamstring), Pascal Gross (ankle), and Soufyan Ahannach (leg) are unavailable for Brighton.
