Manchester City vs Arsenal Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Manchester City suffered a significant blow in the title race after a 2-1 loss against Newcastle United at St James’ Park. Despite taking the lead in the first minute through Sergio Aguero, Solomon Rondon and Matt Ritchie came up with second-half goals to provide a shocker in this midweek match. Arsenal took advantage of Chelsea’s dropped points with a 2-1 home win over Cardiff City. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remained in the race for the Golden Boot title with the opening goal just after half-time. Alexandre Lacazette was able to join the scoresheet with a late goal, while Arsenal’s struggle with clean sheets continued due to Nathaniel Mendez-Laing’s late consolation.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Manchester City have a wonderful recent record against Arsenal, who have every reason to be worried about the high line defence presenting a number of opportunities for City’s forwards. Arsenal have ended up conceding over two goals per game on an average in the last six matches against City and I would back more of the same in this encounter. Even Arsenal also have a great threat going forward. This makes me go with over 3.5 goals in total.

Sergio Aguero is back on form and he has now scored 11 goals for the campaign. The striker has an excellent record against Manchester City after managing eight goals in 15 matches against this club. After having averaged almost a goal every other game, I would back Aguero to score anytime.

Manchester City Preview

Manchester City are in a deep spot of bother after the defeat against Newcastle United. Even though Liverpool were unable to capitalise fully on this result, City are now at a huge disadvantage when it comes to winning the league title. The situation could change if City play ahead of Liverpool in the upcoming weekends so that it puts more pressure on the Reds. The lack of defensive confidence is a worry for City, who have conceded 19 goals this season. City have lost four games already this season and few teams have gone on to win the title after such a large number of defeats.

Manchester City Team News

Benjamin Mendy (knee) and Vincent Kompany (muscle) are missing from action for Manchester City.

Arsenal Preview

Arsenal have been able to strengthen their case for a top four finish largely due to Chelsea’s misfortunes, and the gunners cannot afford to rest on their laurels in the coming weeks with Manchester United on a spectacular run of form. The Gunners are not perfect on several fronts and will be facing a number of challenges in the coming weeks. A major worry for the Gunners will be the defensive struggles that have kept the team unable to take advantage of some attractive play going forward.

Arsenal Team News

Laurent Koscielny (broken jaw) is doubtful for the game. Danny Welbeck (broken ankle), Henrikh Mkhitaryan (ankle), Hector Bellerin (cruciate ligament), Rob Holding (cruciate ligament), and Sokratis Papastathopoulos (ankle) are missing due to injuries.
