Malaga vs Las Palmas Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Malaga fell to a second consecutive league defeat at the start of the 2017-18 La Liga campaign, as they were beaten 1-0 by Girona. This was the second consecutive defeat by the same score for Malaga, who conceded in the 28th minute when Alcala scored from a well-worked set piece situation. Las Palmas suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid, as they lost 5-1 at home. Diego Simeone’s team took a 2-0 lead inside five minutes after goals from Angel Correa and Yannick Carrasco. Even though Las Palmas pulled one back through Jonathan Calleri in the 58th minute, goals from Koke (2) and Thomas Partey produced a massive win for Atletico. Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

A home match against a team with the second worst away record last season sounds enticing for Malaga, who managed 10 wins at home last season. Even though the first match at the La Rosaleda witnessed the team suffering a loss against Eibar, the Malaga outfit are now up against a team that only managed one away win last season. Las Palmas also come on the back of a thrashing which would have demoralised the players. I see excellent value in backing a win for Malaga. Las Palmas conceded 49 goals in the away matches last season. Even though the last game between the two at the La Rosaleda finished as a 2-1 win for Malaga, Las Palmas may not be in a position to score in this game. The absence of Kevin Prince Boetang removes a huge goal threat for the club. I would go with this game producing less than 2.5 goals.

Malaga Preview

The start to the new 2017-18 La Liga campaign has been disastrous for Malaga with the team suffering back-to-back losses. More worryingly, Malaga are yet to open their scoring account for the campaign. The biggest disappointment for manager Michel, who was able to keep the club in the division after being appointed in March, would be the lack of goalscoring threat up front. The inability to find a way past newly promoted Girona highlighted the away issues for the club. Last season, Malaga only managed two away wins compared to 10 at home.

Malaga Team News

Miguel Torres (ankle), Adalberto Penaranda (foot), and Jony (thigh) are the players unavailable for Malaga

Las Palmas Preview

The opening day loss against Valencia is unlikely to be of major significance at Las Palmas, but the heavy thrashing at home against Atletico Madrid will be a major worry. Manager Manolo Marquez will be aware of the role played by home form in keeping the club in the division last season. Las Palmas only picked up one win and three draws in the away matches last season. This is in complete contrast to a record of nine wins and six draws at home. Yet, the heavy loss in the first home match of the season is not a good sign.

Las Palmas Team News

Sergi Samper (calf) and Leandro Chichizola (knee) are unavailable for Las Palmas manager Manolo Marquez.
