Malaga vs Atletico Madrid Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Malaga returned to losing ways after a 1-0 loss against Las Palmas at the Gran Canaria. After managing to hold the opposition for most of the game, Malaga conceded in the final minute through Alen Halilovic. Malaga are now winless for more than a month, while their opponents Atletico Madrid managed a narrow 1-0 win over Valencia. Angel Correa helped Atletico to a second consecutive win with his outstanding long-range effort in the 59th minute.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Atletico have been winning at half-time and full-time in four out of the last six away matches, while two out of the latest three meetings against Malaga have also produced a similar outcome. Despite Atletico only managing two wins in the last six visits to the La Rosaleda, I see value in backing a win for Atletico at half-time and full-time. Malaga have been unable to score in the last four La Liga matches at the La Rosaleda, while Atletico Madrid have kept four clean sheets in the last five away games. Even in the last four games against Malaga, Atletico have produced three clean sheets. I see tremendous value in backing this game to end up as a clean sheet for Atletico.

Atletico Madrid win at half-time and full-time – 6/4

Atletico Madrid clean sheet – 8/11

Atletico Madrid have not conceded a goal in 60% of their last 10 games played

Malaga Preview

Malaga have been pushed to the bottom of the table after the late defeat against relegation rivals Las Palmas. The defeat is yet another setback for new Malaga manager Jose Manuel Gonzalez, who has been brought in with the intention of avoiding relegation. As it stands, Malaga could be relegated with a couple of weeks left in the campaign, as the team are a whopping seven points behind safety. The lack of wins is starting to hit the club quite hard, as Malaga have gone without a victory in the La Liga for seven matches. Gonzalo Castro and Diego Rolan are the top scorers with three goals each.

Malaga Team News

Juan Carlos (cruciate ligament), Recio (hip), and Adalberto Penaranda (hamstring) are the players unavailable for Malaga.

Atletico Madrid Preview

Atletico suffered two major injury problems from the home game against Valencia, while superstar Antoine Griezmann also clashed with the club’s own supporters. Despite heavy links with clubs like Manchester United and Barcelona, Griezmann has ended up staying at Atletico – at least until the summer. However, there is a great possibility of the mood around Atletico improving substantially in the next couple of weeks, as the Europa League campaign resumes. Atletico are aiming for a third consecutive victory, which should hold them well in the efforts to finish in the top two places. Antoine Griezmann leads the scoring charts at the club with seven goals.

Atletico Madrid Team News

Stefan Savic (thigh) and Diego Godin (tooth) are the two casualties from the recent home game against Valencia.
